Pacifier Rooster by vera365

Pacifier Rooster

I have no clue what exactly is going on here - I have to ask my German friends. But this photo was taken in the "farm" part of the animal park today. A chicken/rooster house FULL of pacifiers, many with little notes saying "Good bye pacifier" or similar. I guess it must be some kind of tradition helping kids to get rid of their pacifiers once the time comes. I've never heard about it before, and though that the whole set-up was quite unusual. Hense, in addition to the main day photo of the lynx jump http://365project.org/vera365/365/2015-06-07 , I have to add this one. It is still puzzling me. And the colors were nice, although a bit busy. :)
This is an interesting shot and fascinating narrative. If you find out why the pacifiers were there, I'd be curious to learn as well.

PS. is that a real rooster?

Intriguing and colorful capture. That is an odd way to give up pacifiers. I guess if you want it back you have to face the rooster.

Ok, catching up on this one too - Rooster (a real one, Iris! @irisn) and the pacifiers. Here is what I found out - the tradition to have a special "place" where the toddlers can come and say an official good-by to their pacifier is not universal in Germany. Some places have it, some don't. Sometimes it is at the zoo, sometimes at a farm. But only about a half of moms I've talke to, knew this exists. One used it with her son, and he was excited to participate in it, it's just he panted his pacifiers back the next day and they ended up going out and buying new ones :)
A friend of mine from Sweden said they also have this tradition. And even more - she also shared an article with me that recently, a place for pacifiers just spontaneously got started in New York City. Here is the piece. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/03/27/covered-in-pacifiers-trees-signal-a-rite-of-passage/?_r=1
