Double-check your camera settings!!!!

... or not. My camera was accidentally in the "illustration" mode when I snapped the picture of my lunch. But I kind of ended up liking the result. AND the lunch at my favourite lunch place that I missed dearly while in Germany.
Kewl.

I ran across a video today on How Its Made - Chop Sticks (Japan) and saw how the sticks, as shown in you photo, were made. My question is, having used the "standard" round sticks, how are the ones in you picture used differently?

Wow, this is really extremely cool. Normally I'm not a huge fan oof this kind of processing, but here it is superb. BTW, I'm sorry that I'm so behind in commenting, but I enjoy your documentary of your arrival in th US and I'm glad that you enjoy places you missed. Have a great time.

Not sure what "illustration" mode is, haven't seen that in any camera I know, but great shot Every morsel is so clear.
