Dystopia... by vignouse

Dystopia...

What immediately went through my mind when I first saw this, was some future dystopian nightmare enforced on society by one of the many 'Big Brothers' who flourish in the world today. (In reality, this one of the LED Ambiance Lights used to background light the walls of Paimpont Abbey as part of the Son et Lumière presentation which reaches the end of it's run tonight. See my posts from a few days ago).

For anyone who is confused, I originally called this 'Stalag Luft IV', but as I always intended that this should represent a future nightmare, not a past one... I've changed the title.
That wall would be difficult and somewhat painful to climb over! Wonder how they got the light up there - probably using a crane!

@maggiemae Ah, the wonders of perspective - what I was aiming for worked! The iron fence is about chest height and the light a little smaller than a football!

Excellent shot, I wouldn't want to choose neutral ground and sit on the fence around there though

@darylo Hmmmm...you're probably right, once I've got up there and had a little wiggle to get comfortable ;)

Great details

@joansmor The silver cylinder that you can see just to the right of the building in the centre of the picture, houses the laser projectors and all the clever electronics that make up the display. The mood light you see - it's one of about 30 - is also controlled from there.

Oh, if I had looked closely I would have thought that a silo. Silly me.

This looks like a science fiction image of the world to come -- surveillance and fences and danger. Perfect in black and white. Fave.

There's more than a hint of dystopia here. Fabulous creative shot and perspective. Fav - I'm rereading one of my fav dystopian novels at the moment so totally in tune with your image.

@catwoman2 Hello Mary and warm Happy New Year greetings to you. That was exactly what passed through my mind and made me capture this image; in retrospect, I should have called it Dystopia... Perhaps I still will!

@catwoman2 @ceilidh After I posted my comment to Mary, I found your comment (and Fav - thank you) Margaret which confirmed that a change of title and commetary was in order. Thank you both.

Those little wavery spikes really make the picture for me.

Interesting picture and comments. The spikey railings are attractive yet threatening. Katharine

The pointed fence and the heavy chain add to the sense of forced control in this image. Way to make something friendly into something intimidating.

Good perspective and dof Richard. Can see where you are coming from with your explanation and it fits well.

@vignouse thank you Richard. I suppose we all see things differently.

Love this! It has a wonderful sci fi feel... The watchers from space :)
