For those who have been following my project for a while, this building will be a very familiar sight. For newer followers - welcome - you'll be seeing it again... often. It's Paimpont Abbey and dates from 1199: it overlooks Paimpont Lake and always rewards time spent photographing it. I was attracted here by the turbulent sky which was quickly replaced by heavy grey clouds... and the fact that the year was already 3 days old and I hadn't posted an image of my favourite building!
@joansmor@trinda Joan, Trinda - thank you. Slightly improved Trinda but I really needed to get out 'for a blow' as my late mother would have said. Yes, they are jet contrails: the horizontal one would have been on the europe/stateside route and the two vertical ones, inter-europe north/south traffic. They will have been at 30/40,000 feet so they are seen but not heard.
A wonderful b & w with beautiful tonality Richard. Just me but I find the jet trails somewhat out of kilter with this lovely image. They are real I know and a wonderful capture ;. Great Image Richard love It
Fantastic composition and processing. There is always a different way to shoot the same subject. I'd does look like a great location to keep going back to.
Being a "newbie" as far as following you I look forward to seeing more of this beautiful lakeside Abbey and hearing about its history. The B&W is striking but hopefully you will include several in color.
@essiesue By following the tag 'abbey' you will find eleven colour images of Paimpont Abbey plus lots of other abbey pictures posted by other people - I have probably forgotten to tag some of my images... if I can find a spare half-hour (!) I'll do it.
@essiesue OK - I realised if I didn't do it straightway I wouldn't do it at all, so they are all now tagged paimpont-abbey - just click on that tag from this post and you will see them all... apart from the 600 or so that I haven't posted! Thanks for your interest.

Thank you, Richard, for so promptly tagging pictures of Paimpont Abbey. I viewed each one and enjoyed your comments. It is nice to have this brief background and a desire to view and learn more.
Lovely image !! So beautiful to see such beautiful old structure still standing after so many years. They make such incredible photos. Love the reflection in the water and the airplane lines through the clouds.
A beautiful shot and really excellent editing. Your "turbulent sky" is well described. You can shoot this building some more if you want to... practice, practice, practice! :) A lovely place.
Like very much the cloud cover reflection which sets off the Abbey's peace, beauty and timelessness. Equally the 'Johnny come lately' air trails serve to enhance the Abbey's ability to transcend and accommodate whatever happens in its vicinity. Great on black. Fav.
@helly31 Indeed you may - I was there for mass this morning... come next Sunday and you'll have the 'pleasure' of me leading the worship (as you may know, in a Catholic Mass the priest is responsible for the liturgy, the rest is done by laity.) If you follow the tag paimpont-abbey from this page, you will find a lot more photos of this beautiful building, including some of the interior.
Stunning as usual Richard. I thought I saw an eye looking at me from the sky, almost at the top and to the right of the Abbey. We were doing something similar this morning. The 1st Sunday of every month I take the service at a 17th century non-conformist chapel! The Abbey has become a fav, as has this image.
Another lovely shot of the Abbey Richard. I like the fact , u nintentional I am sure, that you have the jet trails creating like a square pattern in the bit of clear sky in the centre
it has a certain mystery about it in B&W
