Gatepost by vignouse

Gatepost

Sometimes you have to try a lot of times before you get an image you like. I pass this gateway regularly on one of my forest walks and everytime I pass it, I stop and take 2, 3, 4, 10, 20 pictures of it... and I always end up deleting them all. Today though, there was one picture among the dozen that I took that pleased me enough to post. I don't know why this gatepost fascinates me, but I'm pleased to have an image of it that I like.
I think the textures are fantastic, and the DoF creates wonderful bokeh to set off the focal branch. I can see why you'd keep it.

Great wood, great blur.

Maybe because it is simple, unadorned and does the job. Like the dof here.

Lovely capture and DOF!

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! I have my own fence post that I also pass each day on my own walk. I have taken so many photos of it with the open pasture behind it, I am embarrassed to admit it. I'm not sure I even have one I would post here. Yet, I continue to love that particular spot, and continue to photograph it. Are we nuts??

This is lovely, by the way. The texture of the bark and the ivy are great. Plus the post falls on a third :)

It has great character!

Great capture! I feel like there is a story!

The greens and browns are very pretty together with the lighting. I like the rustic feel of the gate made of branches instead of treated lumber. Very pretty!

Interesting find and shot.

Lots of great textures in this shot...great focus, dof

Charming!

Beautiful with lots of great textures, man-made and natural, and a super DOF. The ivy almost looks as if it is tying the whole thing together.

I know what you mean Richard - there are things that I keep trying to get a shot I am pleased with - sometimes it takes ages - pleased someone else does the same
I can see why this post appeals to you

WOnderful textures and detail.

You do such wonderful black and white photos but somehow I am always drawn to color.
January 26th, 2015
@tunia Thanks Tunia - everytime I have photographed this gatepost, I have ssen it in my head as a B&W image... but. I can't make it work, so colour it is!
January 26th, 2015
I was thinking b&w with a grittier look to it.
January 26th, 2015
@vignousefollower So was I when I took it - in fact everyone of the several times I have photographed this post, I had in mind to process it as a gritty monochrome... but I can't make it work. The tonal values are too close together and it just looks a confusing mess... at least to my eye.

Love the textures, the ivy growing round the post and the strength of the metal support. No wonder you're entranced.

Gorgeous texture, interesting composition.

I like the color in it. Makes me think of King Arthur (random association, I am sure)
January 27th, 2015
I like that Richard it is different and well shot

@francoise Curiously Françoise, within a 5 mile radius circle from this gatepost is where the French version of the Arthur legend plays out and this is the reason why a fairly ordinary forest and a little Breton village attract so many visitors. All the streets and roads in Paimpont are named for scenes and personalities from the Tales of the Knights of the Round Table stories!
