B&W February: Country Lane by vignouse

B&W February: Country Lane

Another landscape image for the final week of B&W February/Flash-of-Red 2015. This is a country lane on the outskirts of Paimpont, photographed during an afternoon out with the walking group that Mrs S and I belong to. This was taken with the little Sony RX100iii which continues to impress me.

Views nicely on black...
Good composition Richard. Looks good in B&W

Great composition, Richard. Very nice sky. The RX100 is a great little camera, I love mine.

Wonderful POV! This is so lovely! Yes, it does look nice on a black canvas!
February 24th, 2015
Gorgeous line of the fence Richard. Nice gradient in the sky too and I think you managed to get all that without nasty high contrast edges. Excellent technique. Fav.
February 24th, 2015
Lovely leading lines
February 24th, 2015
@frankhymus Thanks Frank - and I had to take out 3 power poles and their associated cables!
February 24th, 2015
Fabulous leading lines, depth, composition
February 24th, 2015

February 24th, 2015
Beautiful! Love the lines and the clouds are fabulous too! Great shot!
February 24th, 2015
I love the clarity of this picture. Very nice array of contrasts.
I looked at your aperture/shutter/iso. Tell me, did you use a filter of any type?
February 24th, 2015
I like the low vantage point and the framing from the right. I feel more immersed in picture.
February 24th, 2015
So crisp and clean love the gray tones. Great detail
February 25th, 2015
@akirk No no filter Amy - just a straight shot on a sunny winter's afternoon.
February 25th, 2015
Wonderful as always.
February 25th, 2015
Great capture. Instant fav. Following you now.
February 25th, 2015

Superb composition and exposure :)
February 25th, 2015
I like it, and envy you for being able to both take photos in the afternoon, and belong to a walking group that brings you past such scenery.
February 25th, 2015
Loving all the leading lines.
February 25th, 2015
Great leading lines and superb composition and exposure. Looks like a lovely place to walk!
February 25th, 2015
J'adore le noir et blanc. Belle composition.
February 25th, 2015
fabulous leading lines. wonderful in black and white
February 25th, 2015
Great lines and textures and so nice in black and white.
February 25th, 2015
Wow! Those lines are so powerful! Was the sun setting? I can't get my head around the ISO500 and the way the light looks. It just seems like the shot was taken a few hours before sunset...
February 25th, 2015
@whimsicalgrateful Thanks Marta - as the Exif data shows, the shot was taken at 16h10 almost 3 hours before sunset and you can see from the shadows that the sun was shining, albeit slightly occluded. The ISO 500? Well the winter sun is not that strong, especially towards the end of the afternoon.
February 25th, 2015
Wow. Fantastic image that has me wanting to go for a long long walk down that beautiful country road.
February 25th, 2015
@vignouse Thank you. I am on the other side of the planet and can't quite remember how things work up North :). And wow, the sun sets around 7pm in winter? It'll be dark around 530pm here in Winter...
February 25th, 2015
@whimsicalgrateful Because France is a large country there is more than one hour's variation in real time from east to west so the tmeczone for the whole country is an average. Where I live, clock time is about 55 minutes ahead of real time so actual sunset time is really 18h00 - it's already advanced about 30 minutes this year.
February 25th, 2015
Fabulous b&w, you really capture these landscapes so skilfully and beautifully giving such a great idea of the atmosphere of the place
February 25th, 2015
Stunning in B&W. I love everything about it, the lines, textures POV. Excellent job, Richard. fav
February 25th, 2015
A beautiful scene with excellent leading lines!

February 25th, 2015
Really good leading lines Richard. I like the fact you have used the ditch as the central one
February 25th, 2015
Looks like B&W perfection to me. The dynamic range is exquisite.
February 25th, 2015
Charming as ever. But why are you standing in the dyke?
February 25th, 2015
Fantastic shot with great leading lines - beautiful. FAV.
February 25th, 2015
@jack4john Ho,ho! I was actually straddling it in a rather undignified manner in order to get the exact effect I wanted with the receding fence.
February 25th, 2015
Such composure while straddling the ditch to get the perfect pov. uh-oh I've just seen your comment above. This is so elegant. Fav.
February 25th, 2015
@vignouse Been there, done that, too! I always remind myself that it will be worth it when I get a look at the shot! I've let go of dignity many times, even in busy public places, to get a shot I want. Unless someone tells me to stop it, I will continue!
February 25th, 2015
I really like the leading lines of fence, ditch and road. Perfectly composed and processed. Fav.
February 25th, 2015
Beautiful!!
February 25th, 2015
I love the unicorn cloud. LOL My favorites are leading lines so this is wonderful. The three lines almost merging as they turn the corner.
February 25th, 2015
Nice lead lines. Pulls you right down the lane. Wonderful.
February 25th, 2015
Nice comp and leading lines
February 26th, 2015
