This is a follow-on from yesterday's Hunt image; the hounds have lost the stag they were hunting and the Hunt Master called aside his deputy plus the Master of the Hounds and his deputy in order to define a new strategy for the hunt. Here we see the Hunt Master on his way to inform the Hunt of their decision. I talked to one of the hunters today and he told me that the stag was not lost but was in fact abandoned as it escaped on to the Joint Services Military Training Camp at Coëtquidan where, obviously, they were not allowed to follow it. The stag lives to fight another battle but he - or another one - will eventually be caught and killed to complete this season's cull quota.
@joansmor That's why they often lose their prey, be it a stag, a hinde or a wild boar as hunting in the forest on horseback isn't easy... but then it isn't easy for the beast being hunted either!
I like the colours and processing, it makes me think of a painting. It seems to me that you chose to focus on the hunters in the background... can I ask what lead you to it? Or is it just my eyes?
@whimsicalgrateful Hello Marta and thanks for your interest: why is the point of focus on the backround? Operator error, or slow reflexes to be exact. This is a crop of about 30% of the frame so the group of hunters was quite small in the original; I had taken a shot of the group and was still looking through the viewfinder when suddenly the master turned and rode towards me. I took a shot and then needed to zoom out in order to keep the Master in the frame and that shot I missed as he was too close to me, so it was this one or nothing. The camera used was the small Sony RX100iii that lives in my pocket; it's a great little camera but, obviously, not so easy to handle in a fast moving situation as a DSLR.
This looks like a page from a history book. Love the blue uniforms, and the previous poster is correct. This is not something we see here in the USA. Thank you for sharing with us!
Beautiful processing and very interesting subject. This is not how they hunt here in Indiana, USA. This is very refined looking hunting. Very pretty uniforms.
