Unfurling... by vignouse

Unfurling...

...the first of the Arum Lily blooms is beginning to unfurl and show just a hint of its future glory. I liked this best treated in a semi-abstract fashion to reflect the fact that most of its beauty and its final form are still hidden.
A very beautiful image . Love the treatment Richard

What a nice composition, Richard. The "swirl" draws our eyes inward to the center.

Love the spiral effect you've conveyed here and the contrast between the dark and light.

Lovely shot but glad it is only a photo as I am very allergic to lilies. My throat closes up. But as a photo I get to enjoy their beauty. Will you do a follow up? Congrats on PP

@irisn Well that's a comparison I never expected! But yes, she was known for painting extreme close-ups of flowers in a rather stylised manner so - at a stretch - there are similarities, but she wasn't my inspiration. We do have something else in common though, as she famously said, "I hate flowers", although in my case I only hate them as subjects because they are so difficult to photograph well.

Exquisite. Exotic. Beautiful!
April 28th, 2015
absolutely beautiful...what type of lens did you use?

enjoyed the comments with the philosophical notes about what one hates. I think that's why my students "hate" math.

@jen_kentucky Thank you Jen, much appreciated. I was using a Sigma 105mm macro lens with a Led Ring Light for illumination as I took this at 11.30 pm in the dark - I had taken some earlier in the evening but when I came to process them, I wasn't happy with the result.
