My 'phojo' has been missing all day - it's nowhere to be found... so this is what you get today!
As I view this now, it looks as if I simply laid the match and the mint leaf on a piece of paper and photographed them from above - perhaps I should have done... it would certainly have been easier. What I actually did was to embed the match on a fine needle which was held in a clip; the mint leaf was impaled on another needle passed through the head of the match. In processing, I deleted all the extraneous items and modified the size and position of the leaf until it looked more like a flame... and made the match 'green' of course. This done, the only two items in the image looked a little 'lost' so I added a colour matched border to contain them... two borders in fact - one each! In retrospect, I should have had a hand holding the match rather than it being a disembodied object.
I gave this way more time than it deserved, but it's not all bad - I learned a couple of new tricks in PS ;-)
It's spring, things are coming to life. My phojo took a long winters nap and wants to play. But it is almost may and as wonderfully clever as this is I can't help thinking this mint leaf would be better off in a mint julep. Anyone got a hat to lend me. But keep playing because it is fascinating to see and haven seen both your work is amazing (and fascinating should not read interesting).
My daughter was scrolling through, as I braided her hair... she wants me to say that she loves this. For me, now that I carefully scrutinize it, this is totally cool. My goals for this year are PS and editing, so many hands clapping for you. :)
Simple, clean and stunning. Love itI @rosiekerr My 15 year old daughter also scrolls through the pictures as I am looking at them and makes the occasional comment. She worries about @graemestevens ALOT!
Well think it's fun and creative and and very deceptive. It's one of those shots that looks simple but if you try to replicate it you run into all sorts of problems.
That's a lot of work for no phojo. I agree, on paper would have been easier but like you said you learnt things. So all in all the effort was not lost. I find it somewhat calming ... must be the green influence.
Too clever, Richard .... and I should point out that you have pleased some punters with it! In the hope of keeping/getting back my phojo I propose the less extreme step of taking a break! :-) I will watch out for your pinhole shots while doing so!
I certainly enjoyed reading about your adventures (seems to absolve me somehow of the time I "waste" fiddling with photos on the computer just for fun); you did get nice lighting on that leaf (maybe that's a consolation for the trouble).
@northy Well thank you Myra... but I confess to being a little puzzled as to how you come to be commenting on an image that I posted almost two years ago. Not complaining... just intrigued ;-))
@vignouse ha! didn't even look at the date... i was trolling thru the browse sections of the site and decided to peek in at the "who to follow" page (something i never do)... you were there as was this image and the thumbnail intrigued me :)
