Lac de Guerlédan: Level Control Weir by vignouse

Lac de Guerlédan: Level Control Weir

Another view of the drained reservoir - I could post for several weeks on this subject, but as I really don't want to bore you all rigid, this will be the last one. This time it's a colour view of a level control weir in the bed of the river Blavet towards the head of the valley. The wall to the right is one of the outer walls of the lock through which the narrow boats passed and this weir would have been fitted with sluice gates to control the level of water in the basin upstream of the lock, depending on the direction and the volume of canal traffic. The condition of the stone work is remarkable given that it's been submerged for 80+ years.

View on black if you can...

Thank you for your interest, comments and Favs: for those who would like to see more, I have posted two more views of this fascinating area in my Doubletakes album for 10 and 11 June.
Superb on black, loads of textures...I'm not bored yet so if you feel the need to carry on...

There is nothing boring about these photos, I am enjoying them immensely.

Those are really deep fissures in the ground. Must be tough to navigate safely, especially while looking for photo angles to shoot.

@trinda They're about 18" deep Trinda - as long as you plant your foot in the middle of an 'island' you're OK but if you stray towards a fissure, the edge crumbles and you could easily break an ankle.

Another gorgeous shot with lovely composition and texture.

I agree! Fantastic on black. Love all the textures. I have to ask what appears to be sun dried and cracked mud is it actually stone?
June 13th, 2015
@janiskay No, it is indeed sundried and fissured alluvial silt... or mud, if you prefer ;-)

What a wonderful time you must have had and also been nervous that you were getting the shots you wanted because there would not be a second chance.
