I'm delighted that so many of you are enjoying, along with Mrs S and I, the daily cabaret performed by some of our garden birds - the Blue Tits mainly but also some of the great Tits. I spent some time early this afternoon to try to get a better picture of how the tits dive down into the feeders to grab a whole peanut which they then make off with to eat on a high branch of one of the garden trees: This shows pretty well the moment when the bird turns round to climb out, I think... just look how wide he opens his beak to grasp his prize. When he reaches a place of safety, he'll grip the peanut in his claws while he pecks away at it.
Love this image Richard ... the birds and sometimes visiting squirrels amuse me in our garden too .... was watching one blue tit the other day with a peanut between his feet eating ... haha
They are more clever then the seagulls I watched at work today. There was food on a paper plate - very plain to see but none of the gulls could figure out how to get down in the dumpster to get it. Oh for a camera.
