St Sauveur, Locminé 2 by vignouse

St Sauveur, Locminé 2

Today's motorbike ride took me to the old Breton town of Locminé where the parish church of St. Sauveur - St. Saviour - is rather unusual. In 1972 the Mayor and Town Council decided that the parish church had become so shabby and dilapidated that it should be torn down and rebuilt. The front facade consisting of the front of the chapel of St. Colomban (on the left with the clock tower) and the front of the church of St. Sauveur (on the right with the bell tower) were so much of a local landmark though that it was decided to retain them but build a modern church behind. In this view you can just see the sharp contrast between the old buildings and the new church which was opened in 1975.

You can see another view of the exterior here: http://365project.org/vignouse/a-year-of-days/2015-08-21 and a view of the interior of the modern church building here: http://365project.org/vignouse/365/2015-08-21
Although the building materials contrast the new seems to follow the angles of the older building there by marrying or harmonizing the two.

What a neat church. And the pop of the flowers against the old stone is lovely too!

I like the curves and lines of the facade. Interesting contrasts between old and modern.

Very French - the new and the old together. It works! Nice shot.
