PLAY January - Nikon 50mm f/1.4G: Étang du Pont Dom Jean by vignouse

PLAY January - Nikon 50mm f/1.4G: Étang du Pont Dom Jean

Another 'pond' today; Paimpont has over 20 of varying sizes... this one, in the heart of the forest, has a surface area of several hectares and has a twin just next door - L'Étang du Pré (the Meadow Pond). You might think that this would be more properly called a lake than a pond but the difference is whether the ingress and outfall of water is via a stream or simply water draining from the surrounding land. The only living things present today as far as I could see were yours truly and a fishing heron... he's the white speck on the shore top left-ish!

This is for my PLAY project - you can read more about it in my profile - where I'll be using a different prime lens for each month of the year: in January it's the Nikon 50mm f/1.4G on a full-frame camera (the D610 today).

Definitely BoB!
I really like the composition, and great tones in B&W

Looks like a rugged area. Looks cold too but I might just bde projecting as it never got above 17f today.

@joansmor This is right in the heart of the forest: it wasn't cold but there was a rather persistent drizzly rain all afternoon, so the camera spent most of the time tucked inside my coat.

Nice rock (or roots, but I go for rock) in the foreground - and yes I noticed the "rough" surface of the lake. Not much wind, but still :-)

@vignouse So not as cold as here but uncomfortable.

The foreground is very rugged and textured and and the pond very isolated looking.

@randystreat Thanks, as always, for your visit Kathy... it's a 30+ minute walk into the forest to reach this lake so, yes, rather isolated.

@runner365 Thanks Claes: this north shore is mostly rocky outcrops like this one, the rest of the circumference is mainly pluvial silt.

excellent shot and textures in the foreground

VML the progression of rough to soft throughout your composition. Fav! BoB.

Great texture on these rocks and leading lines

The foreground says it all...rugged, isolated, bleak, minimalist and not for the faint-hearted.

Like the textures very much. In Australia that would qualify as a lake; any standing body of water larger than a swimming pool is put to use as a reservoir for the city.
