This is another treasure from the barn where we overwinter our Mobile Home/RV. I missed this before as it was tucked away behind an old car and the whole place is very dark. The late afternoon sun cast this shaft of light through the open pedestrian access door, so I took advantage of it for my photograph.
At least three generations in France had their first taste of motorised transport thanks to the Mobylette which, as a result, has become something of an icon. And whilst other manufacturers climbed on the bandwagon, the one to have was the genuine Mobylette, which this one is... I guess it's 40+ years old.
This is for my PLAY project - you can read more about it in my profile - where I'll be using a different prime lens for each month of the year: in January it's the Nikon 50mm f/1.4G on a full-frame camera (the D610 today).
@dkbarnett Thank you - for other 'barn finds' see 3, 10 & 11 January in this album, 3 & 10 January in my 365 album and 3 December 2016 in my Project 52 album... there may be more to come ;-))
@scotthouston I've no idea Scott but everything appears to be there and, apart from some rust spots, it's in good condition for its age - I'll ask the barn owner next time I see him. Curiously, about 200 metres from this barn there lives a lady who, with a friend, travels round France on holiday each year on vintage Mobylettes covering about 2/3,000 kms each time!
@vignouse Thanks, interesting. New plug and an oil change maybe. That is a long ride on a small bike. When we were in India some loons were doing huge distances in autorickshaws for fun (a "tuk tuk" anywhere else) -- http://www.rickshawchallenge.com -- 2 miles was always enough for me.
@scotthouston Saw the barn owner today... it was given to one of his sons who had in mind to tidy it up for his teenage son. Our local old-style, mend anything garage proprietor took a look at it and pronounced, "Le moteur est mort!"... no compression apparently. Mrs S was disappointed as she's always wanted a Mobylette and had begun to cast her eye on this one.
Peut etre, ne marche pas but it is a classic that has great character and history. (sorry my french is as rusty as that lovely mobylette). Love the light ray, and marvelous negative space. Fav.
