After yesterday's bit of silliness, today a more appropriate use of the 90mm focal length - an environmental portrait of Mrs S. She's crouched down by the front door trying to catch Mitzi unaware... and got caught unaware herself.
I had some good learning from this as I liked the B&W Jpeg straight from camera much better than my edited Raw file... after some playing I achieved the same effect with my edited image.
This is for my PLAY project - you can read more about it in my profile - where I'll be using a different prime lens for each month of the year: for March it's the Fujinon 60mm f/2.4 Macro on an APS-C sensor camera (today the Fuji XT2) - the equivalent of a 90mm lens on a full-frame camera.
Catching an artist is action is tough but you nailed it here. Do you do your composing in B&W (of course with raw in the background)? Last month when I shot 99% in black and white I felt as though I was getting back to my film roots, seeing in contrasts and textures for the most part. I even made the leap to stop using/shooting raw so that I force myself to 'do' b&w. I need to do that again and more often.
Super candid photo with great light coming in from the window. I was having a peek at the books on your shelves too. Lots of flora and fauna books on that first shelf. Nice!
@rookynook No pain, just surprise - as she is, sadly, quite deaf she hadn't realised that I was there. In fact, earlier in the day, she had remarked that she rather likes having her picture on 365... anyway, she got her own back later!
@jamibann Thanks ISSI: there isn't a room in our house that doesn't have at least one bookshelf in it and our 'snug' is entirely given over to books. This one is, as you spotted, largely reference books that we look at quite often.
@joysabin Thanks Joy - all of my cameras are set to record in both Raw and Jpeg and my 'mirrorless' cameras - the Fuji's and the Sonys are set to display in B&W in the viewfinder. It's such a joy to be able to see exactly what the final image is going to look like although, over the years, I've got better at visualising in B&W. The Fuji's in particular render such beautiful B&W Jpegs that I could easily foresake Raw - in my OCOLOY project last year I did exactly that, posting B&W sooc all year
