I almost stepped out of the office to take today's picture. It was a warm, fairly sunny day, so it was tempting to use this project as an excuse to get outside. But I didn't want to take three consecutive photos of natural objects after Monday's flowers and Tuesday's tree bark, so I looked for inspiration inside the office.
After processing my chosen image in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom beta which, unbelievably, is free to install, I debated the merits of the photo in black and white but eventually opted for posting the colour version.
Aesthetically, I'm happy with the picture. Upon reflection though I should have opted for a red pencil, or another strong colour of pencil instead of one that was a similar colour as the desk. Also, the effect of having the pencil shavings with a red edge or something similar would have looked really good (thanks Rosalyn - my boss - for pointing that out!) But, that's what this project is for; learning how to take better photos. And that's why I want all your feedback, so please let me know what you think. Remember, it's not the subject matter that's important; it's the way the pictures are taken and processed that's paramount.
