One sheet is NOT plenty by vikdaddy

One sheet is NOT plenty

Has this nightmare scenario ever happened to you? I originally intended to take another night photo in the city centre, but I forgot. When I got home I noticed this in the loo, and it gave me an idea for a photo.

In post-processing I added a texture to give it that 'nightmarish' feel. I can't remember this ever occurring to me, but I certainly remember coming close!

I had a good day in town, meeting some old acquaintances. It's always nice seeing friends you haven't seen in a while. I should arrange it more often.

By the way, I'm going to take a sabbatical from this site for an indefinite period. Things got a bit heated regarding an ill-advised comment I made on somebody's photo. I hold my hands up and admit that in retrospect it was a mistake, but hey, we all make them, right? I'll continue to take photos daily, so if you're interested you can follow me on http://vikdaddy.blogspot.com/ or at http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/

haha...loved this! especially the processing....no idea how you do that, but IMO, it works! Sorry to see you are letting someone chase you off the project. I have always been one to stand my ground! You will be missed!
February 20th, 2011
So great, the processing is perfect. Wish I knew what you said that set someone off....I love doing that. Hehe. thanks for the blog link, I'll be sure to follow you there. Sorry to see you go.
February 20th, 2011
it's like that permanently in our house
February 20th, 2011
NOOO!!! don't leave us!!!
February 20th, 2011
I had a situation once where I didn't notice until it was too late, and had to phone for backup! Felt really cool.

Sad to see you leave over some dispute with, in all likelihood, some blingwad. Would there be that much harm in sticking around? Can't just unfollow each other and make do?
February 20th, 2011
@eyebrows See the thread' Copy-catting' - that's about me. I'll be back, when things calm down...
February 20th, 2011
Really Cool Processing and Nice Idea :D
Fav'ed
February 20th, 2011
Wow, great shot. Wouldn't ever have guessed it was in your own home - your super processing made me think of dirty-gas-station bathroom . . .
February 20th, 2011
@vikdaddy ah I see. Well, blah, look forward to your return :)
February 20th, 2011
bahahaha nicely done!
February 20th, 2011
oh no! lol, funny shot!
February 20th, 2011
Hey do not leave because a lot of people are jerky. The key is you wrote something that someone was overly sensitive about, you appologized more than once. I tried to calm the masses down but I did not do the best job so I am sorry for even commenting. But if you take a break, how will I get to appreciate a "Spare a Square" moment. I would like to follow you, so hopefully you will stay on and I am now just boycotting the discussions that are just whining and woe is me.

Once again, I apologize that you had to go through this, be called out by name again and again, and that I had some participation in it. If I could go back, I would delete my comment immediately so as to not cause you any grief over a site about posting a picture a day. I hope the rest of your day turns around and they can all go screw themselves for causing you distress.
February 20th, 2011
@brumbe Thanks - I really appreciate your comments.
February 20th, 2011
Really, this site is far too inconsequential to get that worked up about it. Stay and have some fun with everyone. I am just busy having fun with my own pictures....I might copy an idea....but trust me, my picture will not have the polish of many of the shots I have seen on here. I would only worry about plagiarism if someone were making MONEY off my ideas... :)
February 20th, 2011
What!!! What have I missed......! Off to read up

Excellent shot btw... never been in that position but have got damn close...
February 20th, 2011
This is awesome love the editing...don't leave 365 it will be such a loss !!!!
February 20th, 2011
Well looking forward to when you come back.. nicely done photo!!!! Love it!
February 20th, 2011
You should not leave 365, i personally enjoy looking at your quality pictures every single day :D
Major Inspiration
February 20th, 2011
Blimey!!! That's some nasty comments you got ther Vik... Sorry to read some people going so OTT... Not good... Don't blame you for wanting a break after that... Hope you don't quit but can understand why...
February 20th, 2011
Don't take a break! That person was out of line. Don't let her ruin your project! You have come so far!
February 20th, 2011
The texture in this is incredible!
February 20th, 2011
I love this
February 20th, 2011
This is a great shot. Really sorry to see you go, I personally loved looking at your pics every day. I'll be following you on flickr for sure until you return
February 20th, 2011
Ah, hate when this happens! Sorry to see you taking a break...despite the fact that I commented on the thread about the issue today because I did feel strongly abotu, I never intended to unfollow you or offend you or stop looking at your photo's...your art is wonderful. Things on here definitely went to far today, and I do apologize if I offended you. Hope there are no hard feelings...I will definitely be checking out your blog.
February 20th, 2011
S... happens right? Anyone that can take an empty T.P. roll and make it look interesting,,,I will continue to follow. I for one enjoy your work very much.
February 20th, 2011
I love it! An Episode from Seinfield came to my mind, where Elaine was caught in the situation your picture describes (only she was in a public restroom) and she begs her "neighbor" to "spare a square"!
February 20th, 2011
I walked away early from that thread and when I went back tonight I noticed it got way out of hand and the personal attacks and name calling was definitely uncalled for. This picture is awesome, the processing is great. I very much enjoy your work and hope you will not let this discourage you from posting.
February 20th, 2011
I am also sorry to see you go. It was a frustrating thread and things got heated . . . I for one know that I could benefit greatly from minding my own business once in a while, and keeping my hot temper in check. I apologize for my snarky remarks, and I do hope that you'll come back soon . . . these things blow up fast, but the smoke usually clears quickly, too.
February 20th, 2011
This photo represents our bathrooms on a daily basis. Having a 3-year-old that thinks she needs to use a roll a day, I'm constantly going in and finding just an empty roll hanging there. This is a fantastic shot, and I love the editing. I'm sad to hear you'll be leaving us. Your work is so amazing, and I will truly miss seeing everything you have to offer.
February 20th, 2011
Well, I just got on for the evening, seems I missed a mess. The thread appears to be gone now and from the sounds of it, good riddance. I have no idea what it was but just want to put in my 2¢, I enjoy looking at your work and would be sad to see you go, if you must then I hope it's a short break.
February 20th, 2011
oh no :( stay! don't worry about the snarkiness - poeple are so sensitive sometimes :/
you have great photos and I must say I HATE when this happens haha I giggled to myself when I saw the picture! I absolutely LOVE that gritty effect you added to the picture too - definetly gives the nightmare-ish feeling like you said
February 20th, 2011
We all make mistakes now and then! It will blow over. You both have loyal followers so I suggest ignore the other and keep on truckin'. I've only recently started following you and it's far too soon (for me) that you take leave. :) Please reconsider. And btw love the pic/processing ... I always carry a few extra squares in my purse, just in case!
February 20th, 2011
perfect capture!
February 20th, 2011
I reckon that a couple of days will see this all forgotten. You add good quality to the site, so I would urge you to hang on and just let it fade away.

Fun shot, well processed BTW.
February 20th, 2011
wow... i love the processing... love the grittiness of the shot... really cool, vik....
February 20th, 2011
First of all, most excellent shot. The texture is perfect for the situation, um, at hand!! Secondly, and more important to me anyway, is WAAAAAANH! I'm really, REALLY sorry to see you go, even if I know you'll be back. Humans sadly make mistakes, and although I have not followed the thread in question, I am just so sorry this experience has left you wanting to leave. I always learn so much from your photography and your expertise--truly you are an inspiration, and I don't say that lightly. I support your decision, but do wish you'd reconsider. Totally selfish, but it's all about me, right?! ;-) Take care, VikD.
February 20th, 2011
VikD, I followed that thread yesterday and when I saw how personal it was getting I stopped reading, it is all too often people write without thinking, particularly on the web. Sometimes it's hard to convey in pure black and white words what you mean and all too often it ends up being hurtful and spiteful. I'm glad to hear the thread has gone, it was unnecessary to make such things public. I understand you'll want to distance yourself from a community that so quickly turned on you, but judging by the reaction to this picture I hope it's only a short break. Your work is amazing and inspirational, and I love having your shots appear on my home page. Take care and don't leave it too long. Cx
February 20th, 2011
I'm sorry how this copycat thing got out of hand. Yes, personal discussions in printed form can get so terribly fast out of hand. Everybody with a long distance relationship probably knows that. I'm sorry to see you go, but understand that you need a little distance right now. Come back soon.
February 20th, 2011
I hardly ever comment here but I have been following you for a while and I hope you will keep on uploading your pics because they are well worth seeing. You have invested a lot in this project and you might regret it later if you leave it at this point. I know I would if I got as far as you have.

I followed the infamous thread and yes, you made a mistake (imho at least) but who hasn't ever made a mistake and besides that you apologized for it swiftly. That should be it. Even well-meaning people can get carried away on the internet and I think that has happened in this case. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
February 20th, 2011
This is a fantastic photo, and the processing is amazing.
I did comment on the thread (which I think has been removed all together now) but his was not in any way a personal attack on you, just a general comment about the situation as a whole.
SUCH a shame to see you go. I havent been here long, but you are definitely someone who has made a difference to my 365 and something of an inspiration photography wise. Hope you come back soon :)
February 20th, 2011
I didn't have a chance to read the thread before it was taken down, but I'm guessing it might have been for the best anyway - I for one really enjoy your contributions to this site and would hate to see you go - I hope your break is a short one
February 20th, 2011
Followed up that thread last night and left a message suggesting the author delete it post haste. It looks like a few people made the mistake of pitching in in ways that sounded personal (even though I don't think that most intended that) and I really appreciate Ashley's heart felt words on that. I fully endorse what so many others say in your support here. You probably want to take a breather after that thread but as the song says 'please don't go'. You not only produce brilliant work but you are also an active and supportive member with excellent technical knowledge here and I really value your contribution.

I think I am now so inspired by your loo holder that I might go and try one myself (:-DDD!!!). I certainly never would have expected to find this an appealing subject of a photo - but you made it so. Keep it up.
February 20th, 2011
I love the texture!
February 20th, 2011
Carry no worries Bro. This site needs people like you inspiring us all to be better with a camera.
February 20th, 2011
I'm really sorry to hear you're leaving and I hope you reconsider. I saw the thread in the early stages and nearly commented that I didn't think you'd make that sort of comment seriously, but decided not to get involved. I wish I had said something now, but perhaps it wouldn't have made a difference.

As for the loo roll holder, this is BRILLIANT! Love the textures and the whole mood it evokes, definitely panicky. Let this be a lesson to everyone - keep the spare rolls close to hand. Lol.
February 20th, 2011
I agree with Graham...it will all blow over soon enough. I read parts of the thread, but quit when I realized it was all "much ado about nothing". I'm glad to hear that the thread is gone. It was pointless. When you think about it, relatively few people even saw the thread. Hopefully you'll stick around and just let it all go by the wayside.
February 20th, 2011
Really enjoy your photos, along with your explanations...would hate to see you quit posting on 365. (have bookmarked your blog, so I won't miss your amazing work)
February 20th, 2011
This is a brilliant shot Vik.I have missed all the drama, have no idea what all this is about but I understand your decision, but you are sooo close to completing this project, forget all the crap and continue on I say!
February 21st, 2011
I missed all the drama too, but hope you'll stay. I just started following you recently and love your unique style! Although I don't know the details, maybe leaving the project is letting 'them' win!(?) In any case, I'll follow on your blog. LOVE this photo - it says so much! It does evoke the feeling of a really gritty gas station restroom.....YUK!!!

It has started to blow over, despite some people feeling as if they should continue it ( http://365project.org/nikkers/365/2011-02-20). I will continue posting, but I will take a lower profile on this site and let my work do my talking for me! Thanks again!
February 21st, 2011
@vikdaddy I wish this site had features like facebook, where you could Hide postings of people or block them all together and not ever have to deal with them. I guess who I am choosing whom to follow and whom not to follow on this site. I will select those with talent that inspire me and not those who judge others.
February 21st, 2011
yay!! glad you're posting again:)
February 21st, 2011
@vikdaddy So sorry Vikdaddy. Glad to hear you are continuing to post.
February 21st, 2011
@vikdaddy Oh for pete's sake, this needs to go away. Sorry that it hasn't yet. Hang in there and don't let it get to you.
February 21st, 2011
@vikdaddy Glad to hear that you will stick around. And please, please don't react anymore to provocations (as I would call it). I know it's hard, but someone has to be the sensible one and stop this cold.
February 21st, 2011
i'm glad you're sticking around. and like PP said, try to ignore the immature few who insist on dragging things out. as you can see, there are plenty of us out there who admire and appreciate you and your work!
February 22nd, 2011
There are always going to be those who decide to get the last swipe in, even if it wasn't their fight in the first place, and act as if they're "brave" for doing so. If it's any consolation, that has to be the most unflattering selfie of all time.
February 22nd, 2011
@vikdaddy Well I think your photos a very good indeed, and something I would like to aspire to. I agree with @brumbe that it's a shame that should personalities on here gel you could have the option of not seeing those comments, for both parties.
I'm following you for two reasons
1 when you went off I checked out your blog and really do like the pictures that you do
2 I lived in Mansfield for 37 years (until last November) so when I saw you hail from Notts I just had to look in case any of my old haunts appear.
Keep up the cool photo's
February 22nd, 2011
haha classic mate...andrex I hope? or are you Chamen kind of bloke...? hahaa.

i dont expect an answer of course :)
February 22nd, 2011
Ha, this is hilarious. I, too, apologize if my words offended you. Like you said, we all make mistakes, and although I meant what I said at the time, I now see how it in no way helped the situation. No hard feelings, I hope, or as you Brits say--Cheers!
February 24th, 2011
@chamrick I agree! I love how this was done!
February 25th, 2011
This is brill. I love the gritty processing, and how you make everyday things look so incredibly cool. Thank you too for your super kind comments on my work. I respect your work very much, so it's nice to hear!
February 25th, 2011
this is superb!
