Sunflower are a rich source of nutrients. The seeds produce oils for cooking and can be eaten as a snack, salted or roasted or added to other foods such as breads, cakes and salads.
They are often used for bird food which is where this little flower came from. Measuring just 4cm across the flower, this seed dropped from the bird feeder and reseeded giving me a late display of small flowers.
I am now in the process of washing the hanging feeders to minimise the risk of bacteria to ensure good health for my little visitors in the colder damper months.
I love sunflower seeds... the more salt the better! Lovely shot and the patterns formed in the seed head are beautiful.

I have just planted some sunflowers, hope they grow before the lorikeets and cockatoos get to them.

How great that the flower grew there from the bird feeders. And you are a good bird-mama washing the feeders :)

I love sunflowers and their seeds. We use them in many things and feed the birds with them. Nice shot of your flower.
