It's a speckled wood butterfly. Often seen in woodlands

Often you can tell the difference by the antennae. Moths' are feathery all the way and butterflies have nobby things on the ends.

My daughter used to call them motterflies when she couldn't decide whether it was a moth or a butterfly.
