I haven't really played the piano much for the last few years, as two fingers in my left hand have become atrophied-- permanently bent in. Some strange nerve phenomenon that the doctors could not solve. I wasn't sure if I could still play in a way that would give me enjoyment, so I was fearful of even trying. I got out Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and some Schumann and played with the same ease and difficulties as ever! And with plenty of enjoyment. Turns out my hands are large enjoyment to compensate for what could have been a loss in finger spread, and my fingers will just try to quickly adapt to whatever new fingerings is necessary to play the notes that need to be played. This won't work with my cello, of course. Those days most likely are over, but-- yay-- there's still some lovely music I can play. And my cat, Blue, sat on the bench next to me and seemed to enjoy watching and listening. We also played some cacophonous duets.
