Time portal opening up in my backyard :-)
For ONS4, Night, this is the first and only take. Only had one sparkler to attempt this. This is the first time I have made an orb with a sparkler. All previous have been with LED lights. Plan to use them more often. First step, go out and buy more :-)
How the freakin' hell did you do that with ONE sparkler? I'm mega impressed. I've not attempted one in any way yet... but seriously... ONE SPARKLER? You rock it. Fav.
How did you do this Abhijit? I can see the outline of the legs and the anchorage of the sparkler but how did you get that perfect shape? Looks fantastic.
@happysnap what you see as anchorage is not really anchorage, it is just a candle to light the sparkler. the anchor is my hand, in the middle of the orb, that you can't see
Very cool shot! I love the sparkler effect. Have you tried it with steel wool in a wire whisk? Here's one of many "steel wool photography" tutorials... http://photoextremist.com/steel-wool-photography-tutorial your boys will love helping with this! Have fun!
I think you have by far provided me with the most inspiration on this project... this is yet again one that I will be attempting at some point. Hopefully one day I will be able to return the favour! =)
Love the orb. I have tried numerous times and can't get it right. Assume you are aware of Denis Smith and his Ball of Light project. Would Fav it twice if possible.
WOW! This is THE COOLEST! So awesome! I have no clue really how you get it to do this....it looks pretty perfect to me! You say it may not be because you did a different technique, but it seems perfect to me. I have wanted to try ANY form of light writing. But I will wait until my spring or summer break...when I have time. This is so great. Fav and congrats on the PP!
Why do you tie the sparkler to a spring? Are you in the middle of this, moving your arm up and down with the sparkler and turning around once? Is that how you did it? Is the string to be a guide, to keep things even?
@espyetta thanks :)
The technique is to keep your hand stationary and circle around a spot under your hand while spinning the light vertically. Have a look at the YouTube video above :)
I love it.
Thanks :-)
@hollandcrew @stimuloog it may be easier to see how to do it. Check out below video. I first learned to make orbs after watching this same video http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xjznn9_orbs-light-painting-photography-tutorial_school
Thanks everyone :-) These are always fun to do
I'm glad but surprised this made it on to PP. it was a 2 minute job, just for ONS, without much thought.
@thirtysevenways I'm familiar with Denis Smith's work. Someone shared a YouTube video about him on here after I shared my first orb here last year (the one at Sydney harbour bridge). Love his work. You'll find he uses a heavier set of lights. I believe that's what makes the orbs perfectly round. He also turns around more than once. But that makes you lose detail, in my opinion.
@gazbadger :) I'm very glad to read your words. Makes the whole project a lot more fulfilling
