Found these bugs on a tree yesterday. The boys wanted to bring them home and make a home for them. I saw opportinuty so agreed pretty quick.
These (we had to bring two as they needed a friend, as per the boys) are currently living in a shoe box with grasses, leaves and sticks.
Not really sure what kind of bug they are but do know they are flightless
Fits in a bit with my push challenge for the week too. I was asked to play with reflections
We used to have many habitats when our boys were little, tarantula, armadillo, guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, cats, etc we ended the menagerie with an iguana that grew to be 7 feet long.
Looks like a stink bug. I found a couple of them on a hibiscus plant earlier this month and posted them for the technicolor theme. They secrete a pretty terrible smell if they are threatened or you squish them. Great shot though. I like your idea of putting it on a mirror.
My students can get me to bring in insects too! Haha. It does appear to be a stink bug of some type. He is so colorful... Are those his natural colors just enhanced? I am going to try a reflection bug macro! I like how you can see underneath! I like how the white just focuses all eyes on Mr. Stinky. btw Did the boys name them? Fav!
Beautiful reflection. I too like the fact that you can see underneath him as well. We have a similar bug here but they are not quite as colourful and my children keep telling me they are only allowed to look at them and not touch them because ours are poisonous!
Thanks everyone :-)
I had no idea they were called stink bugs. I have to say I handled them constantly for about 2 days and they didn't emit any of the dreaded stink. Lucky me, I guess :)
