I was looking through a photography book and saw a great portrait of a little girl in a corn field. I set out today hoping to get something similar. We stopped at the field on the way home from preschool (perhaps bad timing as Clara was probably tired), made our way through the sticks and took a few minutes tromping around for me to get some decent shots.
For some strange reason, at least a third of them were out of focus and they were all poorly exposed. I also had a hard time positioning Clara where I wanted her and getting far enough back to get the shot (I need another lens and am convinced that it should be a 50 mm, yet that is out of the budget at this point). When I would back up, she would follow me not wanting to be far apart. It wasn't the dream shoot that I was hoping for, but I walked away with a few salvageable shots. Hope to go back and try again sometime.
My get pushed challenge this week is shoes, so I had her wear her cute, sassy pink cowgirl boots for the occasion. She didn't mind that part one bit.
this is lovely... and yeah - gotta love those boots! you know what they say, tho - never work with kids... i've been realizing why of late ;p btw, i know lots of folks love the nifty fifty - but i'm on the fence... i really hate being limited to one focal length - especially if i'm dealing with something unpredictable like the kids... i have an older kit lens 17-85 and it's wonderful to have that versatility... just thought i would mention that
Thank you all so much for your lovely comments. At first, I hated all of the photos I got this time, but in the end I think that the couple I posted were pretty cute. And how can one go wrong with such amazing pink boots. These make photos:)! I've been really busy with interview and V-Day prep. Please forgive my mass reply and inconsistent comments lately. Happy Valentine's Day, friends!!
@northy Thanks for the lens thoughts. I put on FB that I was considering lens options and I had 5+ people tell me that they use their 50mm 80+ percent of the time. I wish I had unlimited funds to get an array of lenses. Hope, too, that I get this new job as maybe I can start saving for something else.
My apologies for slipping so far behind, Amanda - you're first on the catch-up list though. I think this photo's a gem, cute, quirky and it made me smile - your photos often have that effect. And those boots are the sassiest!
Another lens suggestion: how about an adapter and an old manual lens? There are plenty of really nice M42 mount lenses around going for next to nothing, for instance.
@davidwren You are kind to say that! Thank you, David!:)
@automaticslim Andy, I am so far behind, too. I can't keep up...just comment when I can. Don't feel bad about it. Life is busy and I totally get that. Your kind comments make me smile. Thank you so much...and I will have to look into your lens suggestion. I dropped my camera yesterday...on a hard tile floor. It's still working, but...sheesh, hope that I didn't damage anything. Today it downloaded 3 of some of my images (instead of the normal 2 which I can't figure out either). Oy!
Three?! Sounds like it might be dazed ... not funny. :-(
I don't much care for camera straps of the wrap-it-round-your-neck variety, there's one on a never ready case for my digital compact, but usually it's a wrist strap for me. A bit different with one of those hulking great DSLRs though, so maybe it might be an idea to stitch the ends back on themselves?
