Lace Curtains by alophoto

Lace Curtains

Just shooting my neighbor's windows again...is that curtain twitching?! Just kidding.

This is an abandoned house that we parked at to shoot the dandelion photos yesterday. I was looking at the home and took several shots of the decay. I liked how the lace curtains beautified this forgotten window. The place was once a home to a family even, as a tire swing sways from and old oak out front.

It belonged to the Howards: Charles and Ruth (as the wooden sign at the front door indicates). I wonder about them, where they are now and why they left their sweet brick home vacant. How I would love to go inside!

Please view large for the detail in the lace and the old paint.
Definitely about to twitch! Yeah the lace curtains are so grand compared to the decay on the outside.

much better viewed large! I love the detail of the lace. Nice spotting Amanda!

Could be an unfortunate case of foreclosure due to the 2008 "economic crisis". Do you know how long this home has been vacant? I too find great interest in the story behind the photos we see.
May 2nd, 2013
@adamj Nope, I just moved here last year and it's been vacant the whole time. I'm gonna search their names online.

@amandal Keep us posted! Good luck.

awesome shot.....love the crop - - the thing that always is fascinating to me about abandoned places is the history of the people, too!
May 2nd, 2013
wonderful--love the textures :) and yes,i see something moving!!wooooooooh:)
May 2nd, 2013
Nicely composed and the lace sets off the decay in a very pleasing manner - nice work.

Wonderful find and shot! I love the contrast of the weathered wood and the lace curtains. Windows and doors make such great subjects, don't they!?
May 2nd, 2013
Very cool
May 2nd, 2013
The wood and the lace are fantastic.
May 2nd, 2013
Definitely view large to get the details of the lace curtains and the peeling paint. Well spotted xx

Great texture
May 2nd, 2013
Aww, I wonder why they left too, It looks such a sweet home to live in!
May 2nd, 2013
LOL love abandoned buildings

How sad to see houses left like this, but they do make superb photographic material, really interesting detail here, in the lace curtains and the flaking paintwork. Fav.

Oh wow! What an incredible find. I mean, you see decayed houses, but to see remnants of the care left behind is really awesome. Love this. Fave!

Great capture!
May 3rd, 2013
Neat shot! Lots of texture!
May 3rd, 2013
A gallon of paint would be worthwhile.

@denidouble Thanks so much for liking this enough to fav, Deni. Really appreciate that!

@emrob Yeah, so glad you liked it. It really spoke to me, too. Thanks, friend:)).

The details of the curtains are stunning when viewed large -- a wonderful contrast to the peeling paint. Yes, there's definitely a story here!
May 3rd, 2013
Like the curtains and peeling paint combination! Great find!
May 3rd, 2013
Fantastic find and capture Amanda. There is something creepy and mysterious about it, like something out of a horror movie lol. Love the texture and lighting though =)
May 3rd, 2013
@tanja_1211 Total creepieness, there, huh! Maybe I will go back sometime at dusk to creepen it up a bit more. It made me thing of Light in the Attic by Shel Siverstein.
May 3rd, 2013
Very interesting story, and wonder what happened to this couple.
May 3rd, 2013
@amandal Definitely creepy, I'm waiting for the curtains to move and a face to pop out lol. Oh I love A light in the attic, well I love all Shel Silverstein books. Would be awesome if the light would actually be on next time you go, maybe you should go in as well ;)
May 3rd, 2013
Oooh wonder what it's like inside!!
May 3rd, 2013
I like your focus on the window rather than the whole house - adds more mystery and detail :)
May 3rd, 2013
Evokes a bit of sadness.
May 3rd, 2013
Lovely details and textures. Definitely makes you wonder.
May 3rd, 2013
Beautiful shot and I loved reading your intro. The lace is just beautiful.
May 3rd, 2013
Yep, that's the kind of place I most definitely would've found a way into during my more adventurous childhood years...
May 3rd, 2013
@anazad511 I found an obit online but it was in another place. Maybe for her, though. If so, Ruth died in 2012. Thanks, Ana.

@tanja_1211 oooh, I could have someone go in (if we can get in and it is safe) and have them hold a light up in the window. Rockin'...gotta do that!

@ozziehoffy I wish I wasn't such a chicken. But I had my daughter and there could be bad guys in there. I want to see, though. Maybe I'll stop by with the hubby sometime.

@alia_801 Thanks, Alia. I was so drawn to the curtains and how strange it was that they were so delicate and pretty even despite the circumstances. Appreciate your comments!

@barbsmith It really does.

@archaeofrog Thanks, Katie. I wish I could find out.

@rachelmackenzie Thanks so much, sweet lady!!

@squamloon If only I were braver! Thanks, man!
May 3rd, 2013
love the textures and POV here! makes me wonder what could be inside!
May 3rd, 2013
@amandal Yes... please do!! I'm curious!
May 4th, 2013
@wind_of_the_sothern_sea Thanks, Arefin. I think that I will take my hubby and try to get in sometime. Hope that the door is unlocked:).

@happysnap Nuts, huh? Thanks, lady!! This was so different than any decay I'd found before with the delicate lace mixed in.
May 4th, 2013
@katiebrenkert Crazy find, huh? It's off 22/3 in Maineville. Big field on either side that's good for photos. I liked this in that it was so different from decay I've found in the past with the sweetness of the lace juxtaposed with the peeling paint. Thank you!

@sticksandstones Jenny, how have you gotten into your decayed places? Just tried the door? I wanted to go in but was too chicken and I had my kid along. Must go back with a friend or hubby sometime.

@jodimuli Yipe...I am thinking of going back sometime at dusk with hubby and a flashlight and getting him to shine the light out for a photo if we can get in. Thanks, man!
May 4th, 2013
@soboy5 Thanks, Danny. It was a cool find.

@pflaume Yes, I am a big fan. Never have I had such a pretty window find amidst decay before. Thanks, Lisa!

@fullcircle Thanks, Miss Cindy!!

@rachelwithey I loved the contrast of them. Thanks, lady!!
May 4th, 2013
@psychographer Thanks so much, Lisa! Happy weekend:)!

@colie Thanks, Colie. I wonder who won the ETSOOI challenge? I am thinking yours or the padded wall shot.

@annbo I know. It was obviously very loved. So strange that they even left the name placard by the door. Maybe they died.:(

@httpgeffed Me, too. Especially when I find different stuff like this contrast.
I want to go in!!

@paulavdmerwe Thanks so much, Paula!!

@kwind Thank you, Kim!
May 4th, 2013
@sailingmusic I know. Poor old place!! Thanks, lady!

@wendyhgill And I want to know it. Sharpening images helps with the details, I find sometimes. Thanks, lady!

@kalexa Thanks so much, Kalexa!

May 4th, 2013

May 5th, 2013
@sistawood @helixconcepts Thanks, ladies. I passed the place tonight and imagined a ghostly glow from the window.:)
May 5th, 2013
Love the textures and tones. I'm a fan of the old buildings too...maybe you should go back at Hallowe'en and then have a little play in picmonkey.
May 5th, 2013
@edie Yes, maam...that could be so cool! Thanks, Edie!
May 5th, 2013
