Dreaming of Writing, Butt Stumped by alophoto

Dreaming of Writing, Butt Stumped

When I grow up, I want to be a writer, an authoress. One who takes people away to another place with my words. One who spins a tale and changes the way people think and feel. One who causes people to weep. One who causes laughter. One who changes the world with my pen.

Only problem is, I have writers block and I haven't even begun. I don't know what I want to write about, just that I want it to be amazing a life changing. I have such high expectations.

So I sit her stumped, and dreaming...of that one day when I get the first published copy of my amazing novel in the mail. When I grow up...

And here is a song that I can't stop playing today and it sorta oddly goes with my shot in the melancholy feel. A weird cover song of a Lady Gaga song, but this version is better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHLBpmlc7zY Just dance this weekend. If you get the choice...dance!
Fantastic portrait

Lovely thoughts, Amanda! The creative side of you will be able to achieve whatever you want. Its a beautifully arranged picture!
May 16th, 2014
Wonderful shot and interpretation. You don't need to write, you already do all that with your camera!
May 16th, 2014
This is such an awesome shot, Amanda. Love your writing. Look back at all you have written just on 365 and you will be able to easily write and look at your photos as they tell so many stories. I look forward to books that you publish though love what you do on here. FAV

Beautiful portrait.
If you really do start journaling. It will come from there - or go take classes from my would be author currently teaching at NKU.

@darsphotos You are the best. Thank you. Thank you so much!!!

@cdonohoue You know I was thinking about going back to school for a masters in creative writing just today, but really all I gotta do is sit down and write. I know how. Why pay for motivation? Thanks, Cathy. It was so cold and gross today. Glad we waited to go.

@jesperani I want to do both:). Thanks, lady!!

@maggiemae You are so sweet, Maggiemae. Thank you so much!

@kerristephens Thanks, Kerri! Happy weekend!

You're so creative and make great photos! Also you're a fabulous actress and model in your selfies. I'm sure you will do a fantastic work in your future writting as well.
May 16th, 2014
you don't lose anything if you enrol in a short writing course for now, or borrow some books on creative writing from the library. you want to write and be assured that you are doing it right. i have the same thinking, too, a long time ago, that i know how to write so why enrol, but i did and i found out there's a lot to learn. but i was lucky to have found two positive mentors. you need that third person to tell you how good you are, and how you may improve. there's no such thing as writer's block, that i learned a long time ago. you just keep at it. when you write, you just write. that is success in itself. the other stuff will just follow.

a long time ago my late mentor told me, when i told him i was having writer's block, that "maybe you think this way because you know you're good and you're afraid more to succeed than to fail." i.e., writer's block is just an excuse not to write.
May 16th, 2014
dagnabits! i forgot to say that the photo is beautifully set up and the lighting is rather engaging.
May 16th, 2014
butt stumped - you are sooooo funny!
May 16th, 2014
Haha... great title... and a wonderful selfie. I too have dreamed of writing a novel... do you have any idea what genre you would like tp write? I have a rough idea of the plot of my fantasy based fiction novel.... I too am stuck at the 'pre start' stage though... procrastinating on life whilst I make excuses for not beginning. One day..... in the meantime, a fav for creating an image that has awakened my latent dream. :-)
May 16th, 2014
Super duper selfie!
May 17th, 2014
Wonderful just wonderful.....
May 17th, 2014
Dear Creative Amanda, As to the writing thing, (i) start with writing what you know, even if it morphs into something imaginary; and (ii) just write -- make yourself write at least one page a day of anything. (ok, so I don't mean "to do" lists unless that leads to a story or essay, which it could). Do not be critical at first (leave that for your editor - ha ha). After all, look at your very first photo on 365 and see how far you've come (and came in a very short amount of time). As to this photo, love it. I think your style is changing a bit. For a while I thought I could recognize an "Amanda L" but lately, even when you are the model/star of the photo, there's been something different (better? don't know, just different) and unexpected. Looking forward to tomorrow's surprise.
May 17th, 2014
With you vivid imagination some of those places you want to take people should be pretty amazing!
May 17th, 2014
Look at that. You just wrote. Just start. You can edit it to perfection. The novel will come.
May 17th, 2014
@summerfield Thank you for your great great words. I'm encouraged to just sit down and write today. Glad I got this out.

@mrslaloggie Wow, thank you for your words. Funny about my style change. I try to mix it up with my photos. I've been doing quite a bit of that lately. Funny how i shoot so much less, but when I do, I get more that I like. And I've been thinking on/sitting on shots for awhile sometimes. Really enjoying creative edits, too. Hope it's a good thing. Thank you!!!

@skipt07 Thank you for that, Skip!! Really appreciate your kind words!

@gazbadger YES, glad you liked the title. Titles are my thing. Part of the writer in me, I guess. Not a huge clue about the novel, but not in the fantasy or science fiction genre. Maybe a historical fiction as that is what I best enjoy reading. One of my favorite books of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird. I would love to write something like that. And for it to become a classic and all that. I'm a dreamer:). Thanks for the kind words and fav. Get off your butt and get started. I meant to take less time with 365 this year and write more. Hasn't happened yet. Off to try writing a bit:).
May 17th, 2014
Cute!
May 17th, 2014
Lovely shot and great title! Really liked that version of Lady Gaga's song too! As to having writers block, you write everyday. I love reading the things you write with each picture. Seems to me you are off to a great start!
May 17th, 2014
I'm still laughing at your caption. I think you must be a very gifted writer.
May 17th, 2014
I think your medium is photography. You make wonderful stories with your pictures.
May 17th, 2014
LOL... very creative
May 17th, 2014
Away, but had to reply. You are funny and talented, so sit down and write a short story. About something that is importatnt to you. Samething important you saw or lived through in your life. And that will be it. I make my living by writing so believe me i know about writing blocks. But the good news is that even though nobody can force you writting, nobody cans stop you writting! Do it the same way you do your 365 - give yourself a page a day, page you have to write no mater what, even if it would be just " I can't write" three hundred times. Soo the pages will start filling. Good luck!
May 17th, 2014
Fabulous image and narrative! You are Funny,talented..it's all inside...I agree with Alice! Now just.....begin :)
May 17th, 2014
There should be no doubt about your ability to write. Some of the tomes you've penned here would make the start of a great short story. Love the image and the title. Fav
May 17th, 2014
JH
Aw, I hear you. I thought I'd write stuff when I grew up and have barely put pen to paper. One day, maybe...!
May 17th, 2014
On the writing thing I have nothing useful to add....BUT your photography is stunning, I am sure there will be lots of people on here touched, inspired, changed, challenged by your images. Hope you find some flow in your writing soon. This is a beautiful portrait.
May 17th, 2014
Great portrait!
May 17th, 2014
one day it will just all fall into place...
May 17th, 2014
Great shot Amanda
May 17th, 2014
Nice selfie. I share your writer's block. I loved to write in college and I know the next great novel is between my ears. Just can't get started.
May 17th, 2014
Great shot! I'm having a similar problem. I'm doing an online creative writing course ( https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/start-writing-fiction) it's really good - some great tips for getting started, but my problem comes 150 words in when I run out of steam!).
May 17th, 2014
First of all, I love this selfie. You look like a teenager! Fav for sure. Second of all, your words echo EXACTLY how I have felt all my life from age 5. I actually did write a novel 1999-2003, but it's just sitting in a box waiting to be edited for the 100th time. I finally gave up ten years ago. At your age, I felt the same....my son Ryan has the same dreams and is frustrated as well. But I keep saying you are so young --never give up! I'll say the same to you.....go for it! One of these days the muse will come and it will be when you least suspect.
May 17th, 2014
A beautiful capture. Fav
May 17th, 2014
just Wonderful...this Dream of yours :- )
May 17th, 2014
You do that but with photography rather than words. I have always wish that I could articulate the thoughts that float around in my head. My sister and my husband are both really good at that. I have always envied that talent. I hope you get off your stump soon! Great shot to illustrate your emotion.
May 17th, 2014
I think if the desire is there and obviously (agreeing with many above) the talent is there, you should go for it. One thing this project taught me is that if I have a focal point, like a picture, it really helps. If you combine your photog and writing talents, who knows what you can do? I would buy your book!
May 17th, 2014
Amanda, you are wonderful. I think you're already on your way! FAv!
May 17th, 2014
beautiful shot - love the processing... yeah - writing was one of the things on my to do list... unfortunately the two ideas i ever had that i thought were worth anything have already been taken ;p
May 17th, 2014
Thought provoking image and words Amanda. Hope you get some inspiration for your novel very soon, in the meantime you write so well I'm sure it won't be long in coming.
May 17th, 2014
Cute shoes! I like your play on words and processing of this pic.
May 18th, 2014
Butt stumped...Ha Ha! Great portrait!
May 18th, 2014
Such a fun and creative selfie! Love your story and you ARE a great writer....you truly make people laugh! Super duper shot!
May 18th, 2014
Beautiful portrait. Maybe set yourself a number of words to write a day?
May 18th, 2014
Great pose, lighting and words
May 18th, 2014
Isn't writer's block part and parcel of being a great writer? You're just getting it out of the way now. Love your creativity. I would buy anything you published because I know it would be tops
May 18th, 2014
I feel the same way. I want to be published author...a kids book. I know kids so well after 27 years of teaching and I know what they like. 20 years ago, I started thinking "All of the books have been written..there are no stories left to write." But then, I'd see picture book and chapter book after picture book and chapter book ...being published. Darn. I want to do that. I can retire in 3 years, so maybe I will work on one then... I love your photo to depict your problem. Is that stump REAL? It is so perfect and the way it expands out at the bottom...was not sure.
May 18th, 2014
@espyetta It is and I had to drag it there. It's our wood chopping stump. thanks, lady. Do it...let's both of us write!
May 18th, 2014
Very nice and clean portrait for the theme. I like it a lot.
May 18th, 2014
Great capture,super processing!!
May 18th, 2014
When I was a kid I wanted to be an archeologist, then I studied laws....
Like the link, I prefer it to the Gaga's ;)
May 18th, 2014
You look very contemplative sitting there. Love the silvery tones xx
May 18th, 2014
@adamj Thanks, Adam. I love these shoes. I still need some red shoes!
May 19th, 2014
@cocobella I love this version. Isn't it interesting how we change what we are into or are planning to do. I was planing to study law for years and ended up doing communications and marketing. And now I am a mama. I've considered eventually going back to law school, but then gosh, there is so much that sounds cool to do.

@jenteal Thanks, lady. That is really kind of you and so appreciated!
May 19th, 2014
Faved earlier ...and stopping by to say that loved your processing here ... wonderful "sane" image :-)
May 19th, 2014
@friend2303 Thanks so much, Vijay. It was a nice change to play sane for a day:).
May 19th, 2014
Fantastic selfie Amanada and I bet you will be awesome writer, when you grow up ;) Seriously I have always enjoyed your creative writings and fun pics, you have a writer´s mind and you change a world -the 365 world- with your pics and writings, this place wouldn´t be the same without!
May 19th, 2014
@susale Wow, Suse...thank you so much. Really means a lot! Can't wait to grow up!
May 19th, 2014
@psychographer @carolmw @trishaclancy @flyrobin @rachelwithey @eyesmile @april16 @paulaw @northy @kareenking @nana2r @egad @softbootsailer @thresheg @cimes1 @alia_801 @soboy5 @oopsadaisy @kali66 @katerinatina @newbank @jewelsandbinoculars @tonydebont @mzzhope @alicenellis @dmdfday @bristolrose @featherstone @wannabe @lindagene @lesip @jamibann @lorenaavalos

Wow, ya'll, shucks, you really encouraged me. It was cool to be pushed to do this selfie (not that it takes much for that, but...) and to think about what I want to be still. There is still time while I'm living and breathing...time for all of us. It seems many of us have had this desire. Anyway, I really appreciate your great ideas, encouragements, faves and just all of you for being you. Hope that you are having a great new week. I did some writing over the weekend and it felt great. Baby steps...
May 19th, 2014
Whoa! Lots of tags for this one, great! Love the title too.
May 20th, 2014
"One who spins a tale and changes the way people think and feel" - you can do it with your photographs Amanda. This gives us the opportunity to make up our own story. Your processing perfectly complements the mood. It's an excellent portrait. Fav!
May 22nd, 2014
@bill_fe @yrhenwr Thank you so much, guys. Really appreciate your great comments and faves!!
May 23rd, 2014
I've always wanted to be a writer too, only problem is that I can't write :(
June 8th, 2014
@kjarn You crack me up. Maybe the more you try, the easier it will become:). I really need to sit down and write more. Love my daily writings on here:).
June 8th, 2014
Really enjoy your photos as well as the fun commentaries you always include. Great job with this one as well!
June 8th, 2014
@vega You are so sweet. Thank you. I took the week off of selfies. Not feeling it all week. Kinda under the weather and now I have a funky eye infection going on. Ugh. Next one may have to be another sleeveface. Hope you are having a good weekend!
