It's Pumpkin Time! by alophoto

It's Pumpkin Time!

When I was little, my dad called me "Punkin" as a nickname. I always loved that, loved feeling special to my daddy.

I love all things pumpkin: breads, muffins, cakes, pies. I even love Pumpkin Spice Lattes that are out at the coffee places in full force this season.

Today we went to a pumpkin festival at a local dairy. It turned into winter today, too, temp wise. Cold, windy and gray. We were all bundled up, but I only just now got feeling back in my toes after being outside much of the day.

This shot is quirky angled and funky, but my favorite from the day.

And so glad to feel the toes again. Looking forward to snuggling in the flannel sheets tonight...just pulling them out again.

Wish I had one of those lattes now:).
I almost stopped at one of the farms here for a pumpkin but after the air event and dropping Bones at the track I made myself just go home. It is only Oct. 4 . After seeing your shot I miss that I didn't stop.... love your POV
October 5th, 2014
did you move any of them before your shot ?
October 5th, 2014
@lesip No, this was a window box in front of the little shot. I took a few shots, most had me reflected in the window. One had a creepy guy watching me. Loved this one. Such a pretty arrangement they did for me:). thanks, lady!!!

Fall's never been my favorite season, but reading your description of the pleasures of fall changes my thinking about it. Fav for that Amanda.
October 5th, 2014
Pretty scene! I like the angled window box and reflections! We went to the pumpkin patch today too!
October 5th, 2014
@kwind How funny...wish I had bumped into you there today:).

@teiko Aw, thank you for that, Emilie. Fall is so gorgeous to me because I didn't have a real fall for much of my life. I just appreciate it's beauty so much.
October 5th, 2014
Very happy subject and focus!
October 5th, 2014
I love the word, pumpkin too when used for a special name - funny that - who wants to be orange, round and full of pips! We still have flannel sheets on but they just might be taken up soon!
October 5th, 2014
Love this! Great fall photo! love the colors, reflections, and composition.
October 5th, 2014
Wouldn't that be fun, Amanda. Maybe someday we'll actually get to meet each other. I totally feel like I know you!
October 5th, 2014
What about soup?
October 5th, 2014
@bobfoto That stuff is crap. I like sweets.
October 5th, 2014
Awesome shot
October 5th, 2014
love, love your story and of course pic too. I have been a die hard "summer" girl for ever but this year I am feeling ready for a change in seasons - gosh I have not even worn my sassy new boots yet and I am crazy for snuggling up in flannel sheets and the glow of wood burning stoves and pumpkins and mittens and scarves. Yep - bring it on :)
October 5th, 2014
I love your story and this shot, Amanda. This is such a great time of the year. Not the same weather as you, hot here. Enjoy the cool weather there. SF Giants in the 16th inning of their second playoff game at 8:10pm our time, 5 1/2 hours into the game.
October 5th, 2014
@vega LOVE boots. So got into them finally my last year in CA. Never understood them in FL. Only wore flip flops there:). Thanks, my friend. Hope you get some fall soon.
October 5th, 2014
@darsphotos Oh, it's your game that was delaying my hubby's UFC event he wanted to watch tonight:). Gooooo Giants!!
October 5th, 2014
Lovely composition and colours.
October 5th, 2014
Beautiful colors and reflections! fav!
October 5th, 2014
They are so colourful and it amazes me how you all go crazy with the pumpkins this time of year.
October 5th, 2014
@amandal - scones?
October 5th, 2014
Great selection
October 5th, 2014
Lovely colours
October 5th, 2014
This is well shot, Amanda. I'm with you on pumpkin. My favorite breakfast is cold pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I make an extra and hide it in the frog!
October 5th, 2014
Wonderful composition, beautiful set of pumpkins.
October 5th, 2014
I could take or leave scones. Mostly leave. Prefer quick breads and my amazing pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. @bobfoto
October 5th, 2014
Great capture, composition of this display of colorful pumpkins...really like the twisty stems. Fav
October 5th, 2014
Super composition and capture:-)

Ah I wish we had these pumpkins here. Love the colours and the variety.
October 5th, 2014

October 5th, 2014
love the colours - so autumnal
October 5th, 2014
Love your fun, funky, festival shot! FAV!
October 5th, 2014
So naturally beautiful:)
October 5th, 2014
Pumpkins always make me think of the Halloween we spent in the US when my children were small. We couldn't believe the effort everyone went to to decorate their houses. A great pumpkin shot.
October 5th, 2014
@amandal - pumpkin chocolate chip muffins eh? Photo per chance?
October 6th, 2014
@bobfoto Can't, eat them too fast. I'd give you the recipe, but you probably can't get the ingredients in PNG. It calls for a spice cake box mix and can of pumpkin. And then I doctor it up with more spice and a cup of chocolate chips...I add some oj, too, and flax seed and sometimes some dry milk powder (to get more dairy in my non milk drinking boy). Oops, gave you the recipe.
October 6th, 2014
@bobfoto P.S. I generally suck at food photography. Don't know why, but I can't do it well. Maybe I should try again with my newer lens, but past attempts were garbage with this one exception. Did photo my homemade applesauce recently, but it wasn't 365 worthy. I'm picky what I post now.
October 6th, 2014
When I was little my Dad called me his "Little Petunia", so always smile when I see them. Of course he called me other names when I was naughty, not so cute!! LOL LOL
We of course have no signs of Fall yet, we don't get them until Nov and Dec. usually!!
Love the way they arranged everything in the window box, and had to really laugh at the creepy guy watching you, there's always at least one, everywhere we go!! LOL I have a recipe for chocolate chip, pumpkin cookies!! They are to die for!!! Soft and when they come out of the oven and are still warm, I can hurt myself eating them!!!
FAV!
October 6th, 2014
Fabulous colours and texture my friend!
October 6th, 2014
@cashew Aw, thanks...I just uploaded the creepy guy shot. I'll tag you.
October 6th, 2014
very pumpkiny and delicious - love everything about it
October 6th, 2014
Love the reflections and, of course, the colors - well captured!
October 6th, 2014
Lovely bunch of pumpkins! Halloween is starting to become more popular here (we never did it as kids) so we will see some of those large ones in the shops soon. Love the shot and the angle, much more interesting than straight on.
October 6th, 2014
@amandal - we have canned pumpkin in our American aisle... what kind of spices in the cakes mix?
October 6th, 2014
composed wonderfully love the warm colours!
October 6th, 2014
A very pretty autumnal arrangement.
October 6th, 2014
@bobfoto Here you go: cinnamon, allspice, coriander, ginger and nutmeg. I add more cinnamon, cloves and allspice. Good luck and let me know how they come out should you try them.
October 6th, 2014
@bobfoto Hey, rather than trying to concoct a box mix and get it wrong and have some awful muffins and blame me, I'd be happy to type you out a real recipe for amish pumpkin bread that I grew up on. It has real ingredients and spice measurements. I fondly remember the smell of it baking in the oven growing up...my mouth would water. I haven't made it for years as I have gotten lazy (why cook real when a box mix is so much quicker and easier). My mom's bread even called for fresh pumpkin rather than the can, but the can will work. Let me know.
October 6th, 2014
I love the pumpkin lattes available now too. My sister always insists I make pumpkin pie for thanksgiving ( I make it from real pumpkins, and I make the pie crust from scratch too). Do you have a recipe for muffins? Oh, btw, I like the funky angle and reflections too.
October 6th, 2014
@bill_fe Yes, I gave it to Jason above. So good and easy. I make from scratch pie, too!
October 6th, 2014
@bill_fe My easy pumpkin chocolate chip muffins: It calls for a spice cake box mix and can of pumpkin. And then I doctor it up with more spice (cinnamon, allspice and cloves) and a cup of chocolate chips...I add some oj, too, and flax seed and sometimes some dry milk powder (to get more dairy in my non milk drinking boy). Sometimes I add nuts, sometimes raisins, sometimes cranberries. I think the kids prefer just the chocolate chips. It's a weight watchers recipe, but WW doesn't include the chocolate. That is good, too, but not as.
October 6th, 2014
@amandal sounds delicious.
October 6th, 2014
I need a "Fav x 10" button for this one... Fantastic!
October 6th, 2014
@sbolden Thank you for that, Scott. I was really pleased with the tones and reflections...loved it, too:).
October 7th, 2014
Super arrangement and colors~ just beautiful!
October 7th, 2014
@bobfoto Do you want the longer more homemade recipe for Pumpkin bread or no? I enjoyed the 2013 model of Jason yesterday. Who needs heated seats, ac, cup holders and all that fluff. I just like the funny, Thanks.
October 8th, 2014
@amandal - pumpkin bread scares me. I don't like the scones but I do like soup.
October 8th, 2014
@bobfoto Comment changer. Pumpkin bread is nothing to fear, it's like banana bread, only 10xs better. Just got in from doing selfies dressed in some crazy get up that I am grateful to be home safe from. Hope they came out as I don't want to be goth girl again, as I realized I looked like a dominatrix. Sheesh.
October 8th, 2014
@amandal - I like banana bread.
October 8th, 2014
@bobfoto Mine has pineapple in it and is loads better than regular old boring kind.
October 8th, 2014
@amandal - pumpkin and pineapple bread?
October 9th, 2014
@bobfoto Nope. doesn't go to me, but you may like it. Banana pineapple (and once I even added coconut to make it pina colada bread) and pumpkin with spice. We did a coconut one other time since your crack it open help last year. This one tasted like soap. Haven't been interested since.
October 9th, 2014
@amandal - sorry to hear about your soapy coconut. I'm eating peanut butter cookies.
October 10th, 2014
@bobfoto Sometimes perhaps I need a good mouth soaping. Yeah, it was pretty sick. I like peanut butter cookies with a chocolate kiss on top best or with choc chips. I'm a chocolate fan.
October 10th, 2014
I don't know how the conversation veered off to banana bread with pineapple and coconut, but I really like this picture! The pumpkins are so bright and cheerful! Great time of year...
