Have been inspired by some great architecture photos on here (especially Brandon's work
http://365project.org/bdoran/365/2010-08-17) to have a go myself, so after work I walked to the Barbican. Those not familiar with the Barbican, it's a huge concrete jungle.
Not sure wether it's moderism, post-modernism, functionalism or brutaliam or all four! What it is though is over 2,000 flats in many blocks, lots of which are connected by walkways (concrete of course) and includes arts centres, shops, cafes, and plenty of open space.
The grounds are starkly landscaped, all hard straight lines and not a curve in sight. Built during the 1960s when concrete high rises were all the rage where everyone in the future would be living in cities in the sky..
The estate is mainly private and a very expensive. If it was social housing, it would have been knocked down by now.
This wasn't the picture I wanted to upload, but wasn't happy with what I planned to use, although this gives a decent idea of the style of housing here. Truth be told, I wasn't sure exactly where to start to get the best out of the buildings, still, will consider it a learning curve... A few more here

It does remind me of the Tricorn Centre in Portsmouth - before they knocked that down that is...
This is my 299th photo!!! I cannot believe I've taken a photo everyday for 299 days... Although thinking about, some days I reckon I take 299 photos!!!
This is an excellent picture to fit the theme for this week.
Great shot!
