I'd planned on taking a full moon shot this evening after seeing last night's moon and I hoped all day that the weather would remain cloudless this evening.
I wasn't optimistic throughout the day as it has been quite cloudy, but it cleared up this evening so, tripod in hand, I headed off down to the river to catch the moon as dusk settled in.
I got there a little late and everything I took looked just like a orange ball so gave up on the idea and took some river shots instead.
When I got home, I saw the moon through my living room window so thought I'd give it another go - This time I was more successful and am reasonably pleased with this one. I messed about with the shutter speed before finally setting on a speed that caught some of the moon's detail. Cropped a fair bit, but ok I think.
Was then chatting to my girlfriend who said today was a Hindu festival of Rakhi - or 'Raksha Bandhan' which is a festival celebrated mainly in northern Indian states and a special occasion to celebrate the bond of love between a brother and sister. Apparently the sister ties a rakhi (red thread) on the brother's wrist - he in turn gives her money!!! Seems fair!!! Some info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raksha_Bandhan
Being a 'good' Hindu, my girlfriend completely forgot until her brother called to remind her...lol
I went to close my blinds tonight and I seen this huge beautiful moon, I went outside in my bare feet, snapped away, got funny looks from my neighbour, but the photos came out rubbish :o(
Was just discussing that I think you can see a man in the moon to my better half, and he thinks I am now slightly nuts - then your pic came up!! Fantastic pic, wonderful out there at the mo isnt it?
Thanks guys. Have snapped the moon before but this was my first attempt at a close up so am pretty pleased but have seen some shots on here that are just fantastic so know I've got a long way to go... Freida, funny you say that because I took one shot with a bit of cloud across the moon and it looked just like a face... was a bit blurred so didn't use that one...
great shot - it really gives an idea of the "texture" of the moon - and interesting about Rakhi, I'd not heard of that festival before - must mention it to my brother!
this is something i want to have a go at, but haven't looked in to the technical aspects. you seem to have handled it well though. i especially like the way you've framed it here.
