Security

Any visitor to Canary Wharf will no doubt stumble upon the paramilitary styled security force..

And in my 20+ years of working in the area, I hae only ever seen them give directions to question people taking photos...

But I'm sure they do a great job and make the world a safer place!!!!!!!
oh I am sure it is, no harmful photographs will be taken on their watch LOL

I am sure. Photographers, especially those with their gear in a backpack like me, are given a super hard time here in the U.S. lately. The police and security forces I am sorry to say, are just making it up on the fly, at least here in America. There are no laws about wearing backpacks and photographing in ppublic space. Lately I have been firmly, but very politely, standing my ground when approached. It's actually best to approach any you see proactively and tell them what you are about to do and do they have a problem. I actually have received thanks from a couple of cops after I have done this. Their job is definitely a hard one, and they can get very jumpy.

@frankhymus Frank - the police aren't a problem over here as they actually know the law (here in the the UK who can photograph anything when in public). it's the jumped up security types who are the problem..

@andycoleborn Understand. And yes, private security think way too highly of themselves. Here too.
