The building on the left is the HQ for the Secret Intelligence Service - or MI5..
Not that secret really...!
Met up with @azza_l after work for wander along the river trying our hand at some long exposure shots before decamping in the pub for a couple of pints..
I worked in the building directly opposite on the other side of the river when this building was being built. The foundations go very deep and the pile drivers were going every day for about 6 months and nearly drove me nuts. Word has it that the building was never intended for the spooks but was for retail and commercial use but it had to be bought by the government to save a political minister going bankrupt and therefore reducing the wafer thin majority of the party in power.
A bit pedantic but it is MI6 who haunt there, MI5 is on the other side of the river in Thames House a much more non-descript building. Evidently such things matter to the spooks.
I worked next door when this was being built and we could see the foundations from the office. I thought it would be a good idea to photograph the building as it was being built. As the project was delayed for months due to an archaeological dig I lost interest. Probably just as well as I was using a small Russian built film compact.
