158 A very english evening

We have been away on a family reunion weekend in Cambridge. Neil's cousin and his family, in the front here, live in Germany and they were keen to find a traditional village Guy Fawkes night bonfire since it isn't celebrated, for obvious reasons, in Germany. Thank you the lovely little village of Oakington for obliging!
All I think of, when one mentions Guy Fawkes night, is the little ditty, “Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot...” and a vague feeling that Guy Fawkes came to rather grisly end.

@gardencat you're right Joanne, he did. He was due to be hanged but fell off the scaffolding and broke his neck! He and several others had plotted to blow up government. They failed which is rather odd given we celebrate with the fireworks that never happened.
