Snowman - snowgirl?

Our neighbours made a snowman with long hair in the play ground across the street.
You have your snow at last! Anneli, I see it's mid-morning and still a bit dark. Is it typically dark during the day in the winter? We have days like that because it's overcast and the sun can't break through, but I've never lived were it might stay "dark" for much of the day. I was wondering!

It's great to see snow photos in the midst of our summer :)

@Weezilou - Yes, it is quite dark in November - January. It is dark when people go to work and it dark when people come home. If it is overcast it is like dusk all day. On the shortest day in Helsinki, December 23, the sun rises at 9.23 and sets at 15.16. In Lapland the sun doesn't rise at all for 3 months. In summer the longest day is June 23. The sun rises at 3.52 and sets at 22.52 and in Lapland it doesn't set at all for 3 months.

@annelis What a fascinating piece of information! I'm so glad you also mentioned Lapland, because here, my geography gets murky. I will look up that location in relation to you because it's more meaningful to learn about it when I have spoken with someone there! I have heard that some people are affected by long periods without light and buy lighting to sit in front of to help to cure the depression that comes with it. Is that something that possibly affects some there, or are the Finns and Laps not affected as much for the generations they've lived there? This is so interesting! Thanks!
