Upland Sandpiper by annepann

Upland Sandpiper

Not the quality I strive for (too sunny and too far away) but I wanted to post this new bird I saw on Monday. Upland Sandpipers are found in open grassy areas, rather than at the beach like most sandpipers. This was taken in the Huron National Forest in northern Michigan in area managed for Kirtland's Warblers.
I do that too, Anne, when it's an image worth sharing. Love the composition and light, and it's a bird I haven't seen before.

A statue!

Sometimes when a bird poses, even if the light conditions are not optimal, one must relent and respond to the request to be photographed! :-)

Still a nice looking bird and posed well for the shot

What a wonderful find - he looks larger than I would have imagined a sandpiper to be - taller. Neat markings when you enlarge this.
