Clear Wing Hummingbird Moth by annepann

Clear Wing Hummingbird Moth

This daytime moth is quite large and hovers over flowers like a hummingbird, moving its wings very rapidly. Had one in my garden briefly today...not long enough to get the perfect shot, but at least I got a clear shot at 2000 shutter speed. Did I say that it moves constantly and only stays a few seconds at each flower? Too bad this photo makes it look like it is missing a wing.
Wow, beautiful. Never seen hummingbird in real life.

Great shot - I know how fast they move those wings! Is there an easy way to remember the difference between the hummingbird moth and the snowberry clearwing that you know - the two look so similar to me. Neat how you even caught the proboscis in action! Fav

@milaniet Actually, I am pretty new to moths and don't know now if this is a Snowberry Clearwing or a Hummingbird Moth. Which one do you think it is? Snowberry Clearwing?
