I've been out of the loop for a few days but now I'm back. My son was in the hospital but he is now feeling better. I've wanted to try my hand at the low key challenge. I found a very cooperative subject in this antique pitcher which belonged to my dear mother. Please give me your honest opinion, is this low key or is it too light?
I hope your son is okay? I don't know very much about low key but to me, the bottom half of the pitcher is more low key. However, it is quite dramatic - I like the stark simplicity of it and the white against the black.
@sharleen Yes, Sharleen, thank you, he is feeling much better. Yes, I agree, the bottom half and the sloped part underneath the spout may qualify as low key but the light part may be too light. I must research exactly what low key is. I think that there is more to it than just darkness. But when it is done well I do know that I am very intrigued by it. It seems to be meant to convey a mood.
A great capture I don't know anything about low key one for me to try in the future .Do hope your son in now feeling much better again it is very stressful when a family member is in hospital I have my hubby in again at the moment hopefully home again tomorrow after 5 days
@wendyfrost Thank you, Wendy! I received some feedback from the photographer hosting the challenge and he said to move the light source so that you can't see all of the subject. I really like this technique when it's done well, especially with portraits. It's funny, my husband doesn't like this technique at all. Too moody. I hope that your husband comes home from the hospital tomorrow. My son is feeling better now--thank you so much for your concern.
