I love this one lane tunnel near where I live. It is a mid-19th century sandstone arch that was a trestle for the Erie Railroad. It slows traffic down because it is only one lane wide and requires a traffic light to allow only one direction use at a time. But everyone loves it and we would rather put up with the inconvenience than tear it down.
The acronyms surrounding the American flag at the top of the arch stand for (left-right,) Police Department New York, Port Authority Police Department, Fire Department New York. These tributes are a common sight throughout New York; they honor the police and firefighters, living and deceased, who served during the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City, often referred to in the United States as "9/11."
@wendyfrost Thank you, Wendy! I'm happy that you liked this picture. The 9/11 tributes are very commonplace in New York but it occurred to me that others may not realize what they are.
