My New Year's goal was to learn about the creative settings on my camera and to stop relying on the auto. I'm getting more and more comfortable with these settings every day.
We have free summer concerts in my county and I took my son to one on Friday which featured disco music this week. (It was actually quite good!) As it got dark, I played with the camera settings to see what works and doesn't work at night. Here the flood light from the concession stand shines on the picnic tables casting shadows. I didn't use a flash.
Great shot and so clear! Nice shadows... I like that little bit of blue in the corner. Yes, I'm trying too, to not rely on auto and I can't believe how many shots I've lost. It seems like the perfect setting to use when you're in a hurry and you don't want to lose that photo... Good luck - you certainly succeeded here! I shall be as brave as you!
@elainelk Thank you, Elaine for your lovely comments and thank you so much for the FAV! If you look under "Photo Details" on the right side of the screen and then look to the right of the heading "Exif" and right click on "View Info" the settings used will pop up for most photos.
@sharleen Thank you, Sharleen, for your lovely comments! Yes, it is tempting to use the auto settings since many times the auto settings give a great shot. But most of the time I'm trying not to be too concerned with getting the perfect shot and concentrating more on learning about my camera. It's hard for the perfectionist in me but I really am learning a lot. My rule is: if it's a unique photo op--use the auto setting, if not, practice, practice, practice.
Good advice April! I am trying and definitely will keep your words in mind. I too am a perfectionist...and therein lies the problem...
