Despite 'pancake day' not being a thing in Canada - we'll never miss out on it!
For those who are curious as to what it is.... in Britain we've adopted the tradition from Christian practices. Falling 40 days before Easter, always on a Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday) it's celebrated to mark the start of lent, which happens on Ash Wednesday.
Traditionally, people would use up all their luxury ingredients, like eggs, flour and milk - hence making pancakes - before starting lent for 40 days - the time between Jesus dying and being resurrected. (I think!)
Like many, we're not religious, but the tradition lives on just like Easter and Christmas aren't exclusively for those of Christian faith these days.
