Christmas Rules by billyboy

Christmas Rules

Spotted this at Eastgate House, Rochester, Kent.

During Oliver Cromwell's reign as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland (1653-58), stricter laws were passed to catch anyone holding or attending a special Christmas church service.

Cromwell believed it was his mission to cleanse the country of decadence, and every last remnant of Christmas merrymaking was banned during his rule.
That were severe restrictions!
