SP Crater by blueberry1222

SP Crater

Arizona has loads of extinct volcanoes. This one is called SP....short for, get ready for it.... shit pot. This is shit pot volcano.

The naming of the mountain is a bit of lore from the Old West. S P Crater can be climbed, and the lava flow can be viewed from the crater rim. C. J. Babbit, an 1880s rancher and early landowner of the mountain, expressed his opinion that the mountain resembled a chamber pot (or Shit Pot) and locally this became the accepted name.
I had to smile at your narrative, it sure look like one.

I Googled this on Google maps. Looks like there are numerous dormant volcanoes in the area of this. I didn't know Arizona had extinct volcanoes. The lava flow is quite apparent from the aerial view.

@pej2 Right?! Literally hundreds of them out there. An artist by the name of James Turrell bought one and is making an art project out of it: http://rodencrater.com/about/
