early stages

A saguaro starts to rot at the base. Very soon, the entire cactus will be affected. This is sadly the state of many saguaros. This one will be gone in less than a year.
will those 3 at the top then root and become new ones once they fall?

@koalagardens Would be nice, but no. It is possible to plant saguaro arms (and cuttings), but the chance of them rooting is at best 50/50. Generally speaking, large thick cacti will root. (I read this info from the cactus doctor website) https://www.houzz.com/discussions/1728509/replant-broken-saguaro

It looks like it has risen the hands to get the audience's attention.

Just like a sick man. You can see the disease, but there's not much we can do.

Hate to see these old cactus go. Look at all the holes in it for use by so many types of animals.
