- a very special night end of February and too good not to share!
A text from my sister in Reykjavik tipped me off just in time. I grabbed any warm clothing I could lay my hands on, grabbed the camera bag and stormed out of the house to drive nearly an hour north of Newcastle, away from any light pollution. And there they were - almost 11 years to the day after seeing northern lights for the first time in Iceland - they were dancing over the Northumberland sky!

Happy (Filler) Friday everyone and thank you so much for your warm welcome back and your views and comments!
@claireuk Aw, thank you Claire :) It was just magical! I din't have to do much other than provide the camera and luckily I had my Dad's super wide angle lens on loan!!
@maggiemae Thank you so much for the fav and comment! It was a very special night all round and a lot of people had the chance to see northern lights this far south. We can be lucky in northumberland but if it's during the week I can't afford a sleepless night or inevitable cloud cover or rain will ruin the day ;)
OMG B!! What an amazing sight, you lucky lady! FAV off the scale.
A chap I know went to Iceland, planned it for right conditions, moon not too big etc. Didn't see the northern lights once..! :)
@filsie65 thanks so much!! It was amazing. Poor guy, but my sister who's livesd in Iceland for years hasn't seen them much either - cloud cover spoils the whole thing lol!! But she was lucky twice in Jan and February and texted me each time immediately to check here. Second time round we had perfect conditions and I had the day off after so could cope with the late night ;)
Beautiful! Lovely picture with spectacular colours. Welcome back, I've just started following along as I love seeing your great pictures of the North East; I moved down to the Midlands in 2009 but go home to Sunderland as often as I can.
@archielogical thank you for the fav! The Scottish isles may be safer bet ;) but there are some serious aurora hunters in the area here too! I got lucky for the first time in 15 years as I can't spend that much time chasing it.
Fav'd a 1000 times over
