Seems to me everyone would be happier in Europe if they learned how to make a decent cup of coffee.
Can you guess the movie quote?
This is the first place I discovered when I moved to the North East over 16 years ago. A Newcastle institution and located in one of my favourite haunts, the Tyneside Cinema. The whole building has a wonderful Art Deco flair. The coffee rooms opened a good 70 years ago, have table service and very often queues out the door waiting for a table. Great place to meet up with friends or, on this occasion, shelter from the rain...
It sounds like a great haunt. Whereabouts is it. I'm from Tyneside originally (South Shileds, and also at college in Sunderland) We recently enjoyed the Durham Lumiere event, although we did get very wet on the Saturday evening!
@busylady it's in Newcastle right in the centre off Pilgrim Street. If you happen to know this, it's opposite the old Odeon cinema (now unfortunately been empty and derelict for years...)
@judithg lol Judith! It's a quote from a 1939 film called Idiot's Delight...Clark Gable plays the character saying that line, so I guess it was an American ;) Tyneside coffee rooms make great coffee btw
@beluga lol! Yeah, I stood in a backpackers in NZ once, listening to this conversation "the water hasn't quite boiled yet" "so what?!" "The tea recognises it!"....
