View of the ruined Drégely castle.
On July 6, 1552, Hadim (“the gelding”) Pasha Ali of Buda and his army of 12,000 found a rather neglected, poorly equipped castle with only 146 soldiers. The huge Turkish superiority had already decided the outcome of the fight. It was not possible to win a battle from here, Captain Szondi saw it well. The siege lasted for three days. The defenders held themselves heroically, repelling the attacks several times, but eventually the cannons of the Ottoman artillery systematically smashed the castle walls.

A lovely shot, but I'm intrigued by the position of the keystone, surely there has been some subsidence.

@ellida
I think these ruins are just reconstruction, very little of the original.
