the Bremer Standtmusikanten (the picture of a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster) seen in this wine bottle are from a fairy tale that tells about these 4 old animals ready to be disowned by their keepers. after finding out about what was going to happen to them they fled. - all together they started looking for a new home. and found a house some robbers had taken over... to get access to it and to rid the town of these bad robbers they climbed on top of each other and jumped through a window, with very loud shouting and singing the robbers took off.. now these 4 animals had a new home. so the tale goes. and were welcome in the city. . to look up this fairy tale by the Grimm's Brothers go to the internet and click on The Bremer Stadtmusikanten.
I read and discussed this fairy tale with my German class last semester. They didn't know it but loved to find different pictures of it on the Internet.
When we made our trip along the Fairy Tale Road we made sure to arrive in Bremen for the musical production of The Bremen Town Musicians held in the town square. It was offered for free on scattered days throughout the summer . Even if you didn't know German, you could enjoy the antics of these silly animals! I video recorded and in fact just used it with a group of campers studying fairy tales this week. It sure brought back memories!
Love the beautiful label on the Riesling and the great story to go with it. My mother used to read us fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm when my sister and I were children. Sadly, I didn't remember this one.
