And here i always thought horses sleep standing up (how uncomfortable). now that reminds me when we were on our vacation having dinner at a nice restaurant. Hans's eldest aunt (almost 90) reserved a room in an old fashion inn where we were the only ones there. while waiting for the food to arrive i must have closed my eyes for a minute or so and the aunt sitting across from me started laughing and said and i have to kind of translate it from German into English......she sleeps like a horse in a standing position. it sounded funnier in German spoken in her dialect. well everyone laughed and also later as well when Hans told it to the rest of the family
beautiful! I thought horses slept standing up too so I googled it and found out that:
Yes, horses do most of their sleeping standing up. Their legs can lock in place, enabling them to fall asleep without falling over. Because they are prey animals, horses often don't feel comfortable sleeping on the ground, and most of their sleeping is done during the day rather than at night when the predators are out hunting.
This horse must have been very comfortable or...sick?
Love this -- the barn, the colors, the horses, the lightning -- all parts of the photo.
The first time I saw a horse or cow sleeping laying down I thought it was dying -- I was freaking; I wanted to call the owner & let him know.
(Yes, that red building in my photo is a boat house.)
