Bruni, the green monster your hubby is holding is actually a mantis.
It's been long time since i last saw one here...probably since kiddy time. The place i grew up as kid was over-developed as residential area...maybe scaring off or more proper word...killing off this creatures.
(p/s : luckily it didn't 'hook' your hubby hand with its front hand...they grab their prey by hooking on them.)
Your husband is lucky he didn't get pinched. I made the mistake of picking up a preying mantis once and couldn't fling him away fast enough. Ouch! Great close up.
Great photo, love the triangle head that a mantis has.
Am trying to catch up on comments tonight so I will tell you here that I loved your recent sunset shots.
Great shot. It has been a couple years since I have seen one in our yard, but still have hope since it is usually in the fall when they do appear around here.
Great shot of the mantis. The detail is incredible. After reading on here that they pinch, I don't think I will be picking them up. I riased a bunch from an egg and little tiny praying mantis's all over.
I've been picking these guys up for years. Never been pinched. A couple of weeks ago while having lunch at a local eaterry with outside seating, my friend had on of these start to walk up her leg. She picked it off & we passed it around our table. Then we handed it off to those sitting at the table next to us & they pased it around.....I think these guys are incredible creatures. Nice shot of this one!
