I should rather say I finally caught up with it. had seen this beetle a few time passing but because I was driving I couldn't get a picture. so this morning on my way the the chiropracter I saw it parked at a Tim Horton's coffee shop. when leaving after I had my picture I made a right turn instead of a left one and ended up in the drive-through lane. luckily there was no car entering. now back to the picture taking. while I was in the process of course the owner and another guy had to come out of the coffee shop talking.. so I approached them and asked if the Volkswagen was theirs. I started my usual spiel of why I took a picture of the car and asked if it was ok with him when he replied oh my car will be on the internet, great. the door on the other side btw was green.
PS. a little history about the German beetle.
1935 - 1937 50 prototypes of the Volkswagen Beetle were built. 1937 - 1945 the Beetle was changed to what was called The "Kuebelwagen" (Kuebel is another name for bathtub) an open top vehicle that could also float. it was built for the army. then in 1946 the actual Volkswagen Betle as we know it went into production with a Porsche front wheel suspension and a four cylinder air cooled engine sitting directly over the rear drive axcle.
Hilarious color job, and a great story to go with it!
I am reminded of a set of photos that I took a few years back. There was a geocache that required taking a photo of a yellow Jeep. Well, I finally saw one coming up behind me on a freeway. I took photos in my rear-view and side-view mirrors, out the window as it passed me and then through the windshield :-o The capper is that, a few miles later, I stopped at a rest area, and the jeep was there! Could've saved myself some hassle, but then, I'd never get to tell this story ;-)
What an awesome car! Don't know if I'd drive it, but it's awesome!! Definitely a relative of the Patridge Family Bus (an old US TV show) or perhaps Herbie the Love Bug's long lost cousin (an old Disney movie). Great shot!
