This is the only mailbox in town with this new face...I looked out to the if the mailboxes got a face lift..all the ones we came across when driving to either Newmarket or Aurora where our dentist ist locat.we only saw the old red ones..so the question is are we allowed tochange the looks of the mailbox like I believe we're allowed to change the color on fire hydrants. I kinda like this different looking mail box. btw Sue was so kind to sent me a link which explains it all. thank you Sue. http://www.westmountexaminer.com/News/Local/2010-11-15/article-1965444/Targeting-taggers%3A-New-mailboxes-aim-to-deter-graffiti/1
yes, they are slowly replacing them all across Canada..here is why:
The busy pattern was devised to deter “taggers” from making mailboxes their canvas; a problem that costs Canada Post $30,000 annually to clean up in Montreal alone.
Featuring jumbled postal codes from around the country, the Teflon-like laminate not only makes graffiti harder to see, but also prevents spray-paint and permanent markers from adhering to the surface.
“Graffiti has always been a challenge for our mailboxes,” said Canada Post Media Relations Director Anick Losier. “It doesn’t look good for where it is in the neighbourhood. It doesn’t look good for us as a company.”
@roth Sue thank you for the link..I had to go to the post office to send a parcel and asked the lady there about the new mailbox I saw..she didn't know anything about it. don't you think it's odd that in Newmarket I only saw one. so may they will slowly exchange them... all I can say is if its graffiti proof I'm all for it..besides it looks good.
Well, it's pretty interesting looking. Not sure I like the pink- but I do think the writing is cool and the anti-graffiti paint sounds like a real break-through! Good shot.
What an excellent idea to stop the tagging! Thanks for the great current events and a bright, eye catching photo! Our mailboxes here are rounded over and have "legs" so this looks so odd to me.
