I had so much fun watching this sparrow couple in the process of building a nest in our little bird house on our deck. I can see them through the window when I'm sitting in front of my computer. to help out them out, I put some pieces if butcher twine on the deck railing. the female sparrow was in the house and the male (I believe this is the male) gathered them, flew up to the house, hovered in front of the opening until the misses came out, flew in and deposited the twine. as soon as she came back, she threw the twine out of the nest. he picked it back up again and the procedure started all over. this went on for quite a while. I guess they couldn't communicate why she didn't want the twine. my guess is, it's too coarse for weaving into a nest. so today I'll put some lighter material out for them. I already tried fluffed up cotton balls, but not even mr. sparrow would touch those.
